Yeah, I wouldn't do a meet up with them after they wanted to meet you out behind a barn. Honestly, as someone posted earlier in the thread, there have been cases where people have meet in public places where they should be safe and still end up having bad things happen to them in these situations.
Only place I'd feel safe meeting them is right on the front steps of the police station. That sounds too shady.
Yeah, I heard that was a thing to do too. I should look up where the police station is that area and ask to meet there. I bet I never get a response.
If it were me...I'd say "Sure! I'll see you in an hour!" And don't show up. If he texts me asking if I'm there, I'll just say I am and randomly describe someone who's not me and I'm sitting in a car that's not mine. And then ignore any further texts.
Perhaps I'm paranoid but I think it'd be best not to get further involved with this individual. Try looking elsewhere, I'm sure there's better options that aren't quite so suspicious sounding. Even if they're on the level they've done a great job making themselves look shady as hell. lul Better to be safe than sorry and all that.
How much were they asking for it? You said it was more cash then what anybody would have on them. Its a used bike. Unless you are taking about a motorcycle, I can't see a used bike going for $150 max, which isn't that much to have on you (hello TFCon weekend ) If you just want a bike, Walmart sells brand new ones for less then $100. Might not be top of the line but it does what a bike is supposed to. I've never had an issue with mine.
Why though? They have my name from facebook, they have my phone number. Why antagonize them more? They are already probably looking for people to kill/rob. $350. I have a walmart bike and it doesn't do what's it's supposed to.
Get your friend to set up a sniper position with a bb gun at the meeting spot. Get those salt pellets and shoot them in the ass. I'm not going to lie, I havn't read all the details of this story, but shooting someone in the ass with salt pellets has long been a fantasy of mine. Please, let me live vicariously through you.
But, now I am thinking something is wrong with the bike that's why he wants cash only. I'd might as well spend an extra $150 and get the same one new. It's a 2020 WTP bmx, but the 2021 version has a shorter chainstay (rear end) and I totally rather have that since it's easier to do wheelies and jump with that. And if I buy it new I am guaranteed it's not broken inside by some scumbags.
I was joking of course. But even then, with something that shady, it's probably better to just cut your losses (if any).
Yes, I haven't responded to his last message of wanting to meet up. My mom gave me the money for the bike for my birthday last week (on paypal, even an old lady uses paypal btw. Who are these people that don't use paypal?!). I might be able to weasel more money from her for the holidays and just pre-order the 2021 model.
^That was your first mistake. There are WAY too many scams on FB. You're better off paying a little more for something new and peace of mind than risk getting someone's used scraps WHILE putting your life in danger... and from your description of what occurred, your Spider sense had to be tingling like crazy. No bike is worth waking up in a tub of ice missing a kidney with no ID. If something sounds too good to be true... You know the rest. Don't be a statistic.
You’d be surprised the deterring effect people can have things that could be criminal. And firefighters aren’t pushovers either.
