I think paramount has a lot of options they are thinking, once again using the word “revamp” says everything...they still reluctant to say outright reboot and notice the language of professional trades such as deadline and variety: never Once using the reboot word but independent smaller publications do...

even back in jan 2020 the offical language was “revamp”
Paramount Pictures is looking to revamp its “Transformers” franchise in a big way, as sources tell Variety two simultaneous scripts are now in active development: one by James Vanderbilt and one by Joby Harold.
The fact that’s still the situation 10 months later and 3 years after bumblebee release is amusing....
I guess Paramount eventually before 2022 could definitely with a offical press release (not using Di BoNo guy as a mouthpiece) go the following directions:
    1) reboot: outright say bumblebee is reboot
    2) Prequel: outright say bumblebee is a prequel
    3) time travel: days of future past to connect both, rewrite timeline for fresh stories in future
    4) legacy sequel: ignore tf4-5 and...do something with Sam again and give him a kid called....spike!? Maybe...
    5) Multiverse: recognise bumblebee as reboot and somewhere down the line do a multiverse mashup like flashpoint

You don’t know that. You clearly strongly believe that, but you don’t KNOW that.

you, and everyone else, will only know IF this new movie confirms it.

    until then, grow up.

Paramount's hush hush is likely not with the purpose of baiting nerds, but more like a genuine lack of decision of in what direction to go.

If anyone wants a contrast to how paramount acts when they definitely reboots something and says it outright just look at all the press for GI JOe snake eyes...said as a reboot since day 1

Is it wrong to hope Bumblebee isn't in the new movie? I'd really enjoy one without him in the lead role. He's just so... expended. To be honest, I was tired of him back in 1985 when he could still talk. Now I'm tired of his mimey gesturing. But overall, I'm just tired of a childlike yellow Autobot paired with a human.

Hell, just let him talk and give him a new paint scheme, maybe I'll watch it.

Given that they explicitly called Bumblebee a "new storytelling universe," yes, we do KNOW it.

What does that objectively mean to you? Because to me it says everything and nothing. Both xMen first class (prequel) and amazing Spider-Man (reboot) can be thought of as new storytelling universe

It doesn't matter what you or I think it means. Hasbro has said it's a new storytelling universe (the simplest interpretation of which is that it's a new universe, given the recent prevalence of the multiverse in Transformers), went out of their way to change the film to remove tie-ins to the previous universe (like the original opening and Megatron in the Hoover Dam), and retconned several key storylines from the previous universe (Cybertron isn't dead, Sector 7 has no idea what the Transformers are, the Autobots haven't been to Earth yet, etc...). Anyone saying that it's not a reboot is ignoring obvious evidence to the contrary.

To each their own, but I will say the most damning thing to the contrary is general audience Without deep knowledge like he has no clue it’s a reboot...and that speaks to the overall poor job paramount and hasbro has done to cement it as that

And as soon as variety and deadline starts to report more movie news as being a reboot (meaning paramount as dictated their reporting to be such) then i think everyone should consider the matter settled...until then I don’t see it as clear cut. Also hasbro isn’t paramount and aren’t the ones putting in the majority of millions in the budget. They have more control than tf1-5 era but not all the control
So yea a toy company reporting from a toy show isn’t the same as industry trades reporting from the actual movie studios
And what has the studio and the three major trades (variety, Hollywood reporter, deadline) have all said: it’s a revamp...sigh

I’ve gone thru reporting by the three major trades starting from the January announcement of duelling scripts been developed, and so far all of them have described the development as a revamp, and bumblebee as a “spinoff(!)” and “prequel(!!)”.

Hollywood reporter: That outing, a 1980s-set spinoff focusing on one of most popular characters....

Variety: The studio then revamped the franchise with 2018’s prequel film “Bumblebee,” directed by Travis Knight....

deadline: The franchise, including spinoff Bumblebee, has amassed over $4.8 billion worldwide over six titles.

I’m ok with either reboot or prequel btw but remember the trades get quotes and what to say directly from their sources in the studio, not the toy company, not the singular producer

Jesus, dude. You could have edited your stuff into one response. Why not just post each sentence in it's own post next time?

As far as Variety et al. I'd point out that the plebs who write those articles don't give any sort of flying fuck about continuity.

Ultimately the opinions of cuckold reporters, rando muggles, and Bayhards that can't accept loss don't matter. The people who own it AND the people who own it say it's a reboot. Take a couple shots of Jaeger and move to the next stage of grief.

Why can’t we just get TF: The Movie sequels ... why is that so goddamn hard when the fandom would explode at the mere mention??

For a variety of reasons, but the main reason we never got one is because that original '86 movie was technically a major failure and I don't think Hasbro has ever forgotten that.

Yeah, I don't exactly see how TFTM could get a sequel without either overwriting S3 or else picking up where it left off. Personally I thought TFTM was overhyped and undercooked, and did not adequately develop some of the characters. Rather than a TFTM sequel, I think a complete remake would be preferable.

Honestly, though, I'd rather see a TFTM reboot, because for me personally it was the start of a nosedive that S3 then smashed into the mountainside.

It's funny how TFTM receives such nostalgic praise these days. It absolutely bombed in the theaters, and my Transformers-loving 12-yo self hated it. I don't care for it now, either, but the 80s and much that happened within that period are regarded through rose-tinted glasses. I think it took something as genuinely awful as the Bayverse films to make people realize that in comparison at least, TFTM wasn't so bad after all. Truth is, it's still not good, and not deserving of a sequel even if S3 didn't make such a thing redundant.

I think a lot of it is many fans have actually "grown in" to the film. It was clearly written for an older audience, so I do think it resonates now more with adult fans. That and aspects from the movie are actually really great. The animation, the soundtrack, and the voice acting was all top notch and holds up and the movie should be remembered for that (even if, you know, the story/plot really doesn't hold up nearly as well).
