So I've been mulling it over since I first saw the product shots and very much have mixed feeling about this figure.

The jet mode looks good. I would have preferred a 90's animated series design, but I like this one nonetheless.

The robot mode is also good aside from the jet kibble. I could imagine someone making a robot X-Man that looks something like this (they may well have made a robot X-Man - I'm not super knowledgeable about the franchise).

The problem comes in tying the two designs together into one figure. That robot mode just doesn't look like a Transformer to me. Remove the jet kibble and he's be pretty cool X-Men figure, but I don't collect those. So I'll be passing on this.

Ultimate X-Spanse is a pretty lame name too. It sounds like something that came to be when the designers wanted to knock off work early so they just went with the first thing that popped into someone's head.

...correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this one was based on the 90's series?
I'm calling it X-Factor. I know that's a bit overused, but given the state of "robots in disguise" i'd say it's not that bad

I suppose if you dropped the "Ultimate" part it's not a bad name. Better for a proper X-Man character than a crossover, but I like it better than X-Spanse.

I know it's the name of a comic book and team of heroes, but nonetheless I like this one better too.

Forgot to mention in my last post, the 90's series one had forward swept wings and looks broader to me.

Fairly certain “ultimate” isn’t part of his name. I think they’re just trying to do something akin to Uncanny X-Men

Heh. X-pants sounds like a term they'd use if they did a campy Adam West Batman style version of the X-Men.

    Hopefully that is the case.

I hear you. But its still going in the direction that I thought crossovers were moving away from after Gigawatt. Although Top Gun was a fail too because they tried to make the robot head look like a movie character. (Helmet) Gigawatt seems to be the one time they didnt do that which was what made it cool. Ectotron would have been cooler with a proton gun instead of a proton pack cuz really he is not a damn human.

I like all of the sculpted detail on this figure because I prefer having my Transformers look like they stepped out of a modern Live-Action Sci-Fi Action-Adventure movie playing in Imax 3D at a modern movie theater or a modern 3D CGI animated series playing on a modern HD TV over having them be so blandly sculpted that they look like they stepped out of an old 1970s or 1980s Super Robot Anime as they used to play on old obsolete tube TVs.

I'm thinking this is the first collaborative I'm skipping. Not really a fan of x-men and he's not an autobot or anything so it really wouldn't fit with my Generations collection. I was hoping he'd get a comic or something to place him somewhere in transformers lore but doesn't look like it.

a comic seems inevitable. plus, he looks exactly as much like an autobot as the other two crossovers, a simple reprolabel should fix him up.
