More like the jarring shift of the retro design Style and just another re-release of the version 2.0 GM frame without making any improvements to it other than the torso.

If there wasn't an audience for the GM Sniper Custom, why would they release something even less appealing like a MSV without the one thing that actually made the MSV significant?

Because they didn't think it was less appealing and didn't have empirical evidence that it wouldn't sell, unlike the GM Sniper Custom?

I fail to see how anybody would think the GM Intercept with absolutely nothing but the pea shooter of MS weapons and a rather garish paint scheme would be more appealing than the machine that technically stopped the Apsalus III from attacking Jaburo.

Personally I'm glad it's here. I haven't gotten around to it yet but as a big fan of 0079/MSV/MSX era of MS design I'm glad we get these specialized GMs one way or another.

That's nonsense. The GM Interceptor literally came without the Interceptor. That's like releasing the GM Sniper without the sniper rifle. Or the 00 Sevensword without the swords. Or the Wing Gundam without the wings.

And you know what sold worse than the Sniper Custom, which was a fantastic kit and highly praised online? The HG GM Interceptor without the Interceptor. They even did a MSV variant of the Sniper Custom P-Bandai. They did a GM Interceptor P-Bandai, too, and it actually came with the Interceptor pack, so clearly the market was there.

That's such an absurd excuse for Bandai's stupidity.

A rich second coat of paint on everything, some panel line accent for details, touch up the paint, and repeat.

    20201120_235952.jpg

The picture makes my paint appear too dark but it's much closer to the original color than it seems. I still have a few touch ups to make but I want to let the night's work dry first since I need to get into some tight spaces.

    20201121_000111.jpg

For now, all of the Mercury Unit are docked together, and it's easy to see how this is probably one of the most robust units until the latter half starting with Uranus.

    20201121_003106.jpg

When I wrap this one up, it's back out to Saturn and towards Venus. Sooner or later I will get to Uranus, but at the time being I am taking advantage of Gundam Planet's sale price and picking up the Neptune Units.

Painting is done on the Twin Buster Rifles! (though only one is shown here)

Everything (even the silver center part of the rectangular sensor) was airbrushed; no hand-painting here. Super-paranoid that it wouldn't have come out cleanly since there's so many separate colors/layers here. Mostly Tamiya LP-19 Gun Metal, some parts in Mr.Color 61 Burnt Iron, some Plamo Color Silver, some Alclad II Chrome, and a custom Clear Orange mix (Mr.Color 48 Clear Yellow + Mr.Clear Color GX-102 Deep Clear Red).

    Just gotta gloss-coat, panel-line, then gloss-coat again, and I'll be 100% done!

Have you thought of a Wave H-Eye for the targeting sensor? I set some aside for Uranus and Venus, and painted the backsides in molotov chrome since I have non-caustic canopy glue to set them.

the meat and potatoes half of that APRIL/JUNE AmiAmi order finally arrived.

these are kits i lusted after upon first hearing of them in my mid/late-teens in the latter half of the 90's.
being stuck in a small town at the time in those pre-internet days, with only very occasional,
sporadic opportunities to visit my home city 200 miles away and some the hobby and collectables shops it had,
i stood a dismally low chance of ever happening across any of the original IMAI editions of these kits,
and, even, later in the 2000's, internet in hand and all, i missed out on all of the previous IMAI and AOSHIMA reissues
and never managed to get around to trying to find myself any of the early-80's IMAI originals that didn't command an arm and a leg.

well, this latest round of AOSHIMA reprints could very well be the last,
-especially considering the mold flashing found on the LEGIOSS, almost unheard of on a Japanese model kit, at least for me-
so i was damned if i was going to miss out on these!!!

MOSPEADA VARIABLE KITS AOSHIMA - JOHN - 11-21-20.JPG

these are definitely going to be the hardest Mecha models i've done in some time.
a lot of painting will be necessary to get them looking right, and being complex transforming mechanisms,
-the LEGIOSS is Perfect Transformation!! an absolute marvel of plastic model engineering for 1984!!!-
it's going to be tricky to strike a balance where enough is painted to look acceptable, while avoiding mucking up high-friction/contact zones.

while i'm pretty sure i can do a good job of it all, i cannot guarantee that they won't come out
looking more like the vintage GAKKEN MOSPEADA transforming toys than a properly finished scale model...

Thanks for the replies and feedback guys...darn it...I almost picked up the RG RX at retail.

I was seriously thinking of getting mobile suits from the RG line like the Zaku IIs along with the Zeong too. I really like the mechanic details of the RG line.

Maybe if the RX is heavily discounted like $25 in my country, I’ll pick it up.

In the meantime, I guess I’ll complete my remaining MG kits and tighten some loose joints...

@PlanckEpoch : you have to post pictures of your PG Zaku when its done! :)

Polished off the rough spots and touched up the paint, and the Mercuone Unit is complete!

    20201121_110322.jpg

The harpoon is a mix of silver aluminum and some gray which I will use as the base for my figure rise Ultraman.

Honestly, look into the Origin Zaku IIs. I've always called the line "RG Lite" because it definitely veers more toward the realistic mechanical style with the panel segmentation and the numerous small label stickers.

If you're looking for a good Grandaddy in 1/144th scale I highly recommend the Origin version. Seconding Burnout on Origin stuff. It's some of the best HG kits out on the market. Even the super lame ones like the booster-less Intercept Custom is a damn good kit.

Origin RX can be assembled to 99% look like the classic RX if you don't want all the extra weaponry on it, plus two beam sabers. Articulation on it is amazing too. It's also got TWO whole beam rifles. The Early version and the more classic looking one.

I've been toiling away at my 30MM kits, and I finally have some "character" builds I'm satisfied with, just need some paint. There's also a few in-progress builds that need some extra parts

30MM really is the line that just keeps getting better. Every time I feel like I've hit a wall with a build a new set or base body comes out that has practically the exact "idea" part in it. Thanks to the little extra adapters and connectors they put in the Ceilnova weapons set I figured out exactly how to finish part of another custom. (though I'm waiting on some IBO kits that I backordered like last year) Honestly I just need paint for a lot of them.

However, I'm also growing more and more obsessed with making a Leo army. I am really in love with these "quick build" design kits. Right now I only have four, three solo releases plus an expansion, but I really ought to have two expansion sets because then I have two of every Leo type. Surprisingly the expansions are relatively easy to get ahold of, it's the plain Jane single Leos that are never up on Mandarake. So I have to get the individual Leos from HLJ and hope I can find something to ship along with the expansion pack.

Glad to help! What you need to look into and measure for are H-Eyes #4, that's the set which includes rectangular lenses for those kind of weapon sights.

    -
Sticking to my original plan to do Saturn and Venus first but I had an epiphany for Uranus. I finally mixed the right shade of purple using Warrior Purple, Cobalt Blue, and a bit of my F90 mix.

    20201121_132324.jpg

I recoated the base plate and started painting bits of the armor and weapons.

A cursory thought but have you considered getting NPD Leos? AFAIK they're just the stock Leo with extra parts to make the various different generic enemies from Build Divers so push comes to shove it's essentially a light blue Leo you could repaint and nobody would be the wiser.

Nah, I want the full army green experience, and if I was going to paint those I'd have to paint the ones I have, since some would be obviously painted and some plastic. And that's too much work for a kit I buy specifically because it's a quick and easy build I can do multiple times in one sitting.

Though I was considering getting an NPD Leo as a unique unit, maybe a commander. I know OZ rarely had personalized colours among their ranks (I think Zechs had a white one once) but I'm sure someone did it.

EDIT: Also does anyone else hate the changes made to Schizophonic's blog? It was so good-looking before but the white background and the empty spaces on the side make it look horrible.
