Does some things really well, others not so much. I love how they managed to capture the odd elongated shape of the shoulder/upper-arm area, and they got most of the detail and greeblies right, but I'm just not feeling this.
Face looks too young, the alt mode seems kind of gappy (though that may just be early prototype) and the backpack is large.
Also, (and I readily admit that this one's REALLY subjective) it doesn't seem to capture that same "dynamic" feel that FT nails with a lot of their recent figures and that TT occasionally captures as well. It's a tough one to explain but for a lot of FT figures, when I plonk them on the shelf, even with minimal effort at posing, they manage an almost heroic, dynamic stance. XTB stuff so often looks kind of blocky and awkward standing there. It's a really subjective thing but its something I've noticed more and more. The stunticons are a perfect example for me. XTB's just don't look as good, even in a dynamic pose. It's not true across the board of course, Rouge is super hard to pose nicely and Hoodlum struggles as well, but Koot is super easy to get him into a striking epic pose.
I'll stick with my Koot's I think, but it's great to see this getting closer. Hopefully their Springer's equally close - 'cause that's a case where FT's doesn't do it for me. I own MMC's which is great, Big Spring, which is cheap but surprisingly decent, and UT's which sucks SSSOOO much. I need XTB's Springer so I can dump UT's and have a Springer for each mode.

This is the big unknown for Locke, and one reason I decided on Koot. We currently have three different scales for these movie era bots.
1) There's the Takara scale, based on their (for me) too-short Hot Rod, which MMC have followed with their Arcee
2) There's the FansToys scale, where they made Hoodlum just a bit taller than the official and which their Blurr, Arcee and Kup all conform to
3) and the Headmaster's scale which has the Movie bots way taller than before, maybe because the animators got confused thinking Hot Rod and Rodimus were the same height

I don't think it's clear yet where XTB's will fit into this scale? I've gone with FT for the rest of the in-scale movie bots (Hot Rod, Arcee, Blurr and Kup) and if Locke doesn't match that height, he was never going to work.
Its probably the main reason I passed on MMC's Arcee as well, which is a great design, but it's too short, and one of the reasons my XTB Stuntucons stay in alt mode, while FT's are the bot mode stars.
Height and scale is really important to me, and I have no idea where Locke fits in.

Just doing some quick math, the good Dr Egg is $175, and this guy has at least twice as many modes. $175 x 2= $350.

The math checks out, they’re gonna have to drop this beast at $350!

 

Now i see a flaw in his design.
His abs or his mid section is to wide.
He should be slimmer.
Lets wait and see if xtb will fix it.
But i think they won't.

 

I PO'd it even with the coloring. Glad they lost it though.  

 

Wow, that actually looks fairly incredible. If I didn't have koot I'd go with him. Need virtus though!

For the record. The Metallic was never going to be the color for this figure. It was a test shot

 

I never understood why people actually thought the color would be metallic.

 

Yeah the test shots were even labelled as "colours not final" and ibot confirmed when he released the images (around January?) that the metallic was just a mock up and the final colours would be like the cartoon. For some reason those two points were repeatedly missed/ignored by a lot of people back then and now it seems so ingrained, that these final colours are interpreted as a "change" from what they assume was previously intended.

As for the figure, I will buy it as long as its cheaper than Koot. I don't know if many people would want two Kups but would be good if someone gets both in hand to do a comparison

 

I would want two Kups for a younger version and the old timer. But that's about it.

 

I’ll get this guy if the vehicle mode is better than Koot’s it’s kinda hard to compare right now.

 

Given their past medium size bots, hope that the retail price doesn't exceed 100$ *fingers crossed*

 

I want a second kup for alt mode. I already have koot for bot mode - ain't nobody needs to muck around with trying to transform that complex bastard

 

Maybe 598 Design will do a video review on this soon.

 

I'm not 100% sure but I think I remember this one being just as tall (small) as Koot, which would make him irrelevant to me. I would have loved to have Kup, Arcee and Hot Rod the same size as UT Buzzing and KFC Crash Hog.
