Well it looks tan under harsh studio lights/lightboxes, it might look different under natural light. I dunno.

    Heres sunlight incase you're curious
So I think harsh studio lighting is making the toy look far worse than it does

Nice to see that his colours are better in hand,

Trouble is, the plastic still looks semi-opaque and cheap. He just looks too much like an oversized skinny cyberjet KO (and more like a deluxe or smaller that was seriously oversized).

I would get him to be honest, but for 20-25$ at the most and he's something like 70$CAD, which is seriously way overpriced to me, and.. well.. regardless I guess as no longer available from EBGames anyways.

I wonder if he'll be like Giggawatts that appeared to be an exclusive but has now started to show up in TrU anyways.

And part of me wonders if that, specifically, is why this mold is the way it is. Was part of the licensing agreement with the studio/jet manufacturer that it had to be as clean a jet as possible?

Similar to the challenges Takara ran in to with Sunstreaker that eventually lead to the transforming engine block.

The "dirt" actually doesn't look too bad there. Looks more like windswept/gathered than splotchy like product shots suggest. And it gives it a bit more character than had they gone straight clean/steel look.

Maybe the version that fell off the truck didn't have the right paint apps?

It looks to be the same as on Siege Apeface. Does Maverick have lots of small tabs? I know Apeface uses nylon to prevent breakage.

yeah on his knees, all over his torso assembly like where the nosecone attaches to his hip area, back of his upper thighs for jet mode, the panel on his back that folds down to fill in the back of the jet pegs in a small tab in robot mode, and small hooks on his heels on where they connect to the those thrusters in robot mode, and where his shoulders connect in robot mode, are needed to flex for the shoulder hooks to latch in securely, plus the guns are long and skinny and so are the missiles

    *EDIT* I missed some
the tabs on his elbows that tab his arms into the bottom of the jet mode and some really tiny tabs the thickness of a fingernail on the part that the missiles attach to in jet/robot mode,

So dude has small tabs all over him weirdly enough

If it’s the same grade of plastic I’m thinking of, I think it’s due to being just sturdy/flexible enough to not break yet not being prone to nicks unlike PVC. Less prone to stress marks in my experience.

I dunno if its the lighting but does your copy have a thin coat of darker/cooler grey starting behind the canopy? Not the weathering.

Also, best to compare with a screen grab from the movie, the one you have looks like it’s from a sim. The paint job on Maverick’s actual Tomcat was a lot splotchier/dirtier(but not as dirty as the Maverick Transformer was in the stock photos).

yeah it does have that cooler grey color on it, sometimes it depends on how bright of a light is being shined on it

Here's a picture i took outside on a clear day when the sun is above , it almost looks transparent
    [IMG]
    taken with flash on
    [IMG]
and normal everyday lighting in the house
    [IMG]
and with the sun coming in from the window
    [IMG]
and apologies that was the best image i could find of the tomcat plane on google

if its nylon it explains why it is such a pain in the rear to get a good photo of him, and why Shining a bright light directly on him changes the color a bit, I think nylon reflects light differently than normal plastic on transformers,
infact depending on how you have the light on him he's either that blue-sh grey or the same shade of grey as SS 07 starscream

I wonder if just hitting it with a matte or satin clear coat would help improve the photo color matching or if it's something inherent in the plastic itself that would need to be completely coated in colored paint to take care of?

Good thought. Who among us wishes to take the risk and sacrifice their toy?

The color issues are being caused by how translucent the plastic is, so a clear won't change much. You'd have to block off light transmission through the material and that would mean paint.

My preorder has finally arrived. Overall quite satisfied. The paint doesn't bother me too much, but the cockpit that can't be opened PicsArt_11-28-12.29.02.jpg 20201128_110754.jpg 20201128_114935.jpg
