Exactly. If I wanted to buy a project, I could buy something a lot more worthwhile for less.

I don't think he looks the worst, but he sure does look lackluster. Feels like that guy that did the old exclusives handled this. The one who couldn't do a paint layout to save his/her life.

 

I'll agree with the last part of your statement at the very least.

I suppose I'm biased since I've been painting things since I was around six or seven years old. (I'm currently 47, for the record.) From painting with brushes in the spare bedroom to setting up a folding table outside to use the airbrush to having a dedicated shop for painting. And sometimes, when visiting others, I'd just go find myself a place outside and make do.

That said, there really isn't any excuse for how poor this thing is colored out of the box. Utter disaster of a color scheme.

I don’t think it’s supposed to be oxidation, it looks like Maverick’s Tomcat flew upside down through a swamp while flicking off the enemy pilot at the beginning of the movie.

yeah a lot less chonky looking, maverick reminds me of Spike Spiegel proportion wise, very slim and lanky

 

Dammit, X-Spance just got me to order Maverick. I already have Gigawatt and Ectotron, so I night as well have all four characters.

What a difference a change in deco makes. It's funny, with Ectotron, I didn't really like the earlier figure but I absolutely love the 'old, rusted up' Afterlife variant. With Maverick, I want a 'cleaner' deco representing the Tomcat on the first movie.

I was a bit concerned since Ecto was a remold of one of the older Voyagers, but he doesn't seem to be absolutely towering over his new jet-buddy.

 

Vehicle scale is all over the place, but the bots work well together. Will be interesting once X-Spanse is in there as he's a tall boy.

 

It would be awesome if Maverick was scaled accurately compared to vehicles, that would be a huge bot with tons of details.

 

It's a trade-off though. Because something that size would be pretty cost-prohibitive. I know people will argue some of those Crossovers are a bit spendy, but there's an appeal that would be lost if they started trying for that level of accuracy.

On top of that, I think people are under-estimating the odds that this mold is a one-off for Maverick. I would not be shocked if this ends up adapted for use as the Cyberjets in the near future.

 

So, people are already getting him? Is he shipping? Hopefully I can still buy him....

I actually think this is a good mold. Kinda skinny, at the far end of the normal TF design aesthetic, but it has one of the cleanest plane modes I can recall. New plastic, more paint detail, remove the splatter/camo/whatever, and maybe ditch the Maverick helmet and I think it'd make a fine TF.
