I wish starting on Roy's 1S Bandai would remold those pegs that go into the legs for fighter mode and remold those to clips like the Yamato 1/60 V2. Would make the fast packs less of a joke in fighter mode.
Hahaha. It'll probably fall apart before you can shoot it. I was staring at mine a couple months ago thinking I should panel line it and the right arm just fell off at the bicep. Super glued it back on.
that figure was such a bummer for me. I properly discovered Macross with the MII RPG by Palladium: I saw the series on old US Renditions VHS tapes that I picked up at a Saturday Matinee (video store chain) in the mall using money earned from mowing lawns. I would have been 13 or so I guess. I still get their dubbed versions of the songs stuck in my head from time to time (I don’t know if this is still common in anime, but a lot of early domestic dubs included efforts to rewrite all the music into English as well). anyways! Coming off of Robotech and the heavily edited and hilariously dubbed “Clash of the Bionoids” US release of DYRL, Macross II, and in particular, the VF-2SS, was a Big Deal. When evolution toys released theirs I nearly dropped the $250 or so list price on one at HLJ but a little voice in my head reminded me to check reviews. I still really want a big honking transformable VF-2SS figure, but I seriously doubt there will ever be a solid one. I keep trying to convince myself NOT to get the HMR one, because I don’t want to accidentally end up buying HMRs again. Also speaking of HMR, thank you to whoever bought the Glaug that was up at Mandarake. I was seriously considering buying it and a Dougram as old Battletech stand-ins and, again, I really don’t need to be doing that.
while i honestly wouldn't mind owning the FAST pack set for an occasional option, the base VF was pricey enough for me already, and, IIRC, the FAST pack set is in hot demand with shout supply anyway, so i'm just as content leaving what precious little is actually available out there open to those that unequivocally desire a set...
Unpopular opinion here: Fast packs, super packs, armor packs, ghost boosters... I think they’re all ugly. I like a plain VF with clean lines.
i superglued the latches shut on both my DXes. so far, - after a handful of transformation cycles with the 1S, and many with the 1J - neither have popped free again, despite all the weight and torque applied... Amen to that one...
You guys mean the latch where the swing bar separates? Yeah, the only thing I don’t like about the DX’ design is that two-part swing bar. I could see it getting really loose with repeated use, eventually requiring some kind of kraggle to keep it together. I tried to come up with a way to do a waist swivel without the need for the separating backbone and it’s pretty easy! All you need to do is put each leg on a big sliding rail that can telescope forward for battroid mode. Then just ignore the huge unsightly thing sticking out both sides of your figure. seriously though I don’t know why they added the waist swivel.
to anyone contemplating using Cyanoacrylate adhesives (Superglue) be sure to look for LOCTITE brand "CONTROL GEL" (blue/silver bottle) this formulation is more viscous in texture than the more liquidy "Krazy Glue" and, as a result, is far, far easier to apply with positive precision and control...
Need me to help? Help as in drive over with my truck and help remove some of the stuff in the way. I bought the HMR one as my second "coming back to Macross" present to myself. The first was the VF-1D to see if I would like the newer stuff. I'm actually thrilled with the HMR VF-2SS and love that I finally have a real VF-2SS to fiddle with. I remember hating how many parts I have to keep stashed away for the HMRs in the beginning. After I got my first few DX's and now Arcadias I don't mind having so many parts stashed away for the HMRs. I even bought the newest HMR VF-4G.
Roy's VF-1S ("TV version") is due out this month, and the "TV version" super parts are December, I think. They showed off a VF-1D, blue Max VF-1J and the "GBP" heavy armor set recently at the recent Tamashii Nations show, along with some one-off designs, but I don't think there has been any word about when products will be released or even which ones will be general release vs. web exclusives yet.
Super parts preorder at A-E: DX Chogokin Macross - Super Parts Set for TV Version VF-1 Valkyrie TamashiWeb Exclusive (Reissue)
Honestly, I have not used them for years, especially for pre-orders. Things were going smooth and then 1 pre-order never got fulfilled, I emailed about it for an entire month with no response only be told 1.5 months later sorry we do not have this in stock anymore. And I have never used them since. At first, I thought about picking up a DX chogokin TV-set for fast packs for the Roy 1S, but now looking at the difference in color between the DYRL and TV packs I might just stick with the DYRL ones and call it day.
Man, what happened to NY? While their shipping costs have generally sucked in the past, at least they were mostly reliable.
