While I agree with everyone that the Guiding Hand mythology is overcomplicated, dubious, and unconvincing, Rung's role at the end of the story works for me in light of the theory that he's a bit of a James Roberts Self-Insert Character.

When you think about it that way, The Creator giving over his power to his Creations and then removing himself from the story... well, it's self-indulgent, but its sort of beautiful too. That he plasters "Please Remember Me" across a planet as his final act almost chokes me up each time. It's tragic in-universe, because of course no one does remember him. But you can also read it as Roberts asking US to remember him, which is poignant in another way.

Wow already forgot that story and Roberts, so much for being memorable.

IDW Transformers is not literature guys.

That was exactly what I thought when I read it. I always kind of saw Rung as an analogue for Roberts, even though I believe he said that was not his intention.

Damn I miss him writing TF. I can’t think of any other series with storylines as memorable and fun as MTMTE/LL.

"Literature is a term used to describe written and sometimes spoken material. Derived from the Latin word literature meaning "writing formed with letters," literature most commonly refers to works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction, and in some instances, journalism, and song."

    Thus it is literature.

Sure I guess, although Google shows "written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit."

Considering I find IDW Transformers to be one of the best Transformers continuities I'd say that still holds up.

Sure, I think 300 years from now people will still talk about this.

I think if I were reading the Roberts’ story as a novel, I’d probably be more critical. But with a very few exceptions (some of Gaiman’s and Moore’s better works are the first that come to mind), I’ve not come to expect truly great literary storytelling from the superhero comics genre (into which transformers generally fit).

From that perspective, I find the Roberts’ story arc pretty decent, the first part almost great, and the overarching concepts, such as the Primus Plotline and reveal, interesting.

Well shame on you for fondly discussing something that isn’t going to be remembered among the likes of Dante! *storms out of the forum based on a children’s cartoon*

As a person who wants more original G2 characters, I would take this and a repurpose into Manta Ray.

Eh I always liked the idea of Rung being a lot more than we thought but making him primus was a step too far.

Personally I prefer to stick to my fan theory he's an ancient unlocking mechanism, a key or tool for some plot thing the story never dealt with. Because that's exactly what his alt mode always looked like to me, a device for accessing something like he's an over sized Resident Evil puzzle doodad haha.

One idea could've been the key to vector sigma. The council were so desperate to claim themselves as the key, it would've been the ultimate middle finger if it turned out that rung was the key and them an ornament.

Alternatively, the original myth was that the guiding hand came from primus itself, so it would've been fun to have made him a conduit of primus' will az the leader of the five, and the item that would allow primus to transform, like a planet key from cybertron? Some thoughts

Is that from MTMTE comics? Or the new series? Amd does that mean he transforms into a tv projector?

    Yes. That would be perfect

It's from LL. Turns into a Matrix maker.
