This is a shame to hear that it had to be one or the other, though honestly it's hard to tell which one if either of them were well written or quality scripts. As cynical and as skeptical as I am in regards to Hollywood doing anything, I'd still like to see a Beast Wars movie attempted.

I really hope this doesn't just cause the 'tribal politics' of the TF fandom to get worse but I Know it probably will. Sigh.

I didn't see Creed 2 because I didn't really like the first one, I hear it's good but then I've heard plenty of shit movies are 'amazing' so I've become rather skeptical of such claims. I've also heard the best parts about Creed 2 are involving Drago rather than ... well, Adonis. Apollo Creed is one of my favorite movie 'antagonists' and I went into the first movie with high hopes, and came out of it just like "meh."

 

Yup, repeating this phrase out of context at least five times today  

 

Probably the same way Rian Johnson got Star Wars.

The guy could do an amazing job for all we know, maybe he'll come out with a really solid movie. As I said before his relatively barren rap sheet doesn't exactly mean he'll do a bad job. Nothing wrong with being skeptical though.

pretty sure only laika’s first couple movies were actually profitable. They seem to be doing worse on that front every time.

Travis is the son of the founder of Nike. I’ve long been suspicious laika has stayed afloat much longer than it might because of likely deep pockets behind the scenes.

i don’t say that with any animosity (I actually have been a professional stop motion animator at various points in my life). Even if Coraline was the best film they ever manage to make, everything they do there is absolutely amazing and puts anything I’ve done or been involved with to shame. I’m glad they’re doing what they do and I hope they’re able to stick around for a long time.

 

Rian Johnson's debut movie was one of the best movies I've seen in the past 30 years. But it was a much smaller-scaled story, much like Creed 2 was, and clearly, it was a mistake to give Johnson the reins to a big budget special effects-driven franchise movie when he had no experience with projects of that scale under his belt at that point.

If this movie works, it could be a huge step forward for this director. But if it doesn't, it could sabotage his career.

 

It's becoming more common for directors with a couple small-scale successes to be given a chance on a big franchise, because that's what Marvel has been doing: grabbing up-and-coming directors and putting them on big action movies. Marvel Studios has a hands-on system where directors learn to handle blockbusters while they're making them, and now other studios are trying to replicate that.

 

Just to remind someone saying either “he’s done nothing like this, or “he’s a no one”.

remember that before Winter Soilder the Russo Brothers did community and a bunch of unknown stuff.
Honestly if Steve’s “unqualified” to do this job than I guess same could be said even more so for the Russo’s, and they made four of the best comic book films of the last decade so...

 

Hopefully he does as good of a job as Rian.
