Picked this badboy up last week, and he's great! empty half of a jetmode doesn't annoy me very much. the bizarre decision to put the ball-joint of the dino mode at the elbow and not the shoulder does however - doing so would have made the shoulder-hip ratio seem a lot less glaring.

 

I feel like nobody poses the dragon mode correctly.

He's definitely better than Apeface, but honestly both the Horrocons got done dirty. I know Triplechangers are never easy, but the animal modes left a lot of wiggle room. Snapdragon has a great jet mode, but a shit dragon mode, and Apeface has a shit jet mode but a decent gorilla mode, and they both make pretty lame robots.

I dunno, they just feel weak. Like they're lacking articulation, two of the three modes are weak, Apeface's plastic is weird because apparently he was so poorly designed normal plastic couldn't cut it. It sucks because when are the Horrocons ever going to be done again?

 

I dunno...I had rose-colored memories of G1 Snapdragon's dragon mode, and then I went back and looked at it. It's...this one's much better. Much.

 

Yeah. Sure we have a complete Overlord, but he can have more toys. Or, actually she. As Mega is female so Megajet would be female. The beast mode would fit well with the Decepticon Headmaster Juniors.

 

I mean, pretty much anything's better than the G1 toy. But I wasn't comparing it to the G1 toy, I'm judging it by its own merits, and on its own merits, the dragon mode sucks.

 

so many peeps gripe about these horror cons. Apeface is one of my fav bots from siege and he’s one that I have in my hand often. Snapper is great too, ded more solid that ape.

Frankly it's no different from Grimlock and the only thing differentiating the two is Grimlock is featured a lot more in media. If their positions were switched nobody would care for Grimlock.

 

Snapdragon's pretty cool. I'm partial to Apeface (don't ask why, I just liked his name and beast mode long before Siege), but Snapdragon as a figure is an improvement. He's less of a pain to transform, his ankles are less awkward, and his jet mode is much more convincing. That said, his minimal elbow articulation in bot mode is a real bummer (even if I knew it was coming). Krunk's integration into dinosaur mode looks much better in-hand than I expected, but I've had a rough time attaching him to Snapdragon's jaw.

Ironically, he's more poseable in dino mode as a triple changer than POTP Grimlock.

 

Just got mine. One of the few ER figs I was really excited about.
Limited arms is a bummer.
Transformation to all modes is nice and smooth. Real pain to attach Krunk to the dragon head so I did the old TR trick, rotate Krunk's head then attach to the dragon head.
Overall I like him.

One thing I noticed right away on my copy (a buddy picked him up for me), is the purple mouth plate has terrible edges with the paint

How come no one is talking about this? I been keeping him boxed in case I find one with better paint edges, but from a good number of pics in this thread, appears that the mouth plate is frequently not coloured well and/or always looking "frayed" around the top/nose and sides/disappear into the helmet's "cheeks"

 

Got this in a batch of TFs for Christmas after I ordered one in November and Amazon promptly lost it in the handoff to the courier they were using.

I was a little surprised to see all the people who prefer Apeface over Snapdragon because for me Snapdragon is a more enjoyable whole. I don't want to get too much into discussing Apeface because this isn't the Apeface thread, but I felt grossly disappointed by his jet mode and I thought that the transformations were far too finicky with all the hollows and odd double-jointed panels and swingouts to make everything work.

by comparison Snapdragon is fairly elegant as far as triple-changers go in terms of transformation. the only really odd bits seem to be shifting his back/chest panels to accommodate dragon/t-rex mode and the mini swingarm pieces that attach his arms to his shoulders. Everything else feels solid and interesting. I especially like that Snapdragon betrays absolutely no signs of his triple-changer nature in robot mode. The jet mode is obvious but there are no really strong outward indicators of the saurian alt mode.

Mine has a pretty solid and tight set of joints and that's a big plus after having several Earthrise figures with loose or wobbly joints that seem to be the result of bad tolerances. Robot arm articulation is limited, but being a g1 kid who was raised on bots whose arms did nothing but rotated in a circle with no other axial movement, this does enough for me to be content with it.

Transformation to jet and reptile mode are a little tricky but more intuitive than Apeface was and I was able to revert mine from reptile to robot from memory/fiddling today after only doing the initial transformations from robot to jet to reptile on Christmas day after getting him out of the box.

I'm also a sucker for double guns. I prefer Apeface's robot mode proportions a little more, but that's not to say that Snapdragon looks bad as a robot outside of perhaps the disappointingly glaring (and common) tailfin kibble on his arms. I almost wish that if they have to be there they would've been mounted on the backs of the arms instead of the insides next to the body, because at least on the backs of his arms they could swing out and look like makeshift bladed melee adornments.

I like the creativity of the reptile mode a lot, but it does get a pair of complaints. 1) as people have said, the jointing choices in the little t-rex arms is questionable. Ball-jointed elbows that are limited in how far they can articulate is disappointing and the stiff, post-swivel shoulders only hinder his range of movement even more. I also don't like that he replicates the biggest issue I had with PotP Grimlock: the fact that his hips/legs are made of the robot mode arms means that his lower body is incredibly wide/hippy and it makes his upper body look skinny and out-of-proportion by comparison. Obviously it's not easily doable without crunching down the robot's chest/shoulder area, but I wish there was a way to push those arms in a bit just to cut down on the hip width and maintain a more streamlined look across the whole beast body.

Jet mode is fun and works in its relative simplicity. I could gripe about the robot arms becoming kind of obvious attached-booster "wings" but that feels like an ongoing struggle for a lot of jet mode Transformers that use a transformation that turns their arms into wing components, so it's not something specific to just Snapdragon.

All in all I am really happy with Snapdragon and it's something I could see myself displaying in any of its modes depending on my mood.

Now I just need to wait for the retro Headmasters characters to make it to Canadian Walmarts and I can complete a Headmasters anime-specific display scene with the Horrorcons, the Headmasters, Fort Max, Ultra Magnus, and Sixshot (and Scorponok if I can ever get one)
