Well Ironhide and Prowl are... whelming. Not under or over, just whelming.

I much prefer Ironhide to the Siege WFC version, so I'm happy to retire that from the collection which helps make Crosshairs a bit more unique, but my god, four different shades of red? I have a 36 year old Ironhide which is metal and plastic and it has a more consistent colouration throughout.

Prowl looks really great, but the second you pick him up or touch him you do realise how far away from the early days of CHUG we've come. They were well made toys, even if the designs weren't always the best (like Ironhide and Ratchet), if they'd been full G1 style rather than their own thing (Generation 3?) I don't think people would be championing these now.

The other thing though, and the thing I always forget and try to remind myself about, is that there are a lot of collectors in the fandom today who weren't collecting when CHUG was first around, and god knows after the terrible repaints during CW (I think the limbs were great for the combiners, but weird and lacking for Ark crew) these new molds for the characters are sorely needed.

Overall I have found WFC more hit than miss and always happy to support the brand, and these are decent fiddle formers which is exactly what I'm looking for these days.

Oh, it was implied, kinda, that Ratchet and Impactor rather bonded during Siegeflix.

Re GI Joe game, that's the one place I've seen the aesthetic used other than the toys themselves.

Right, I can breathe again now. For non-moderator-attracting reasons.

How are we doing? Dem robots, eh? SS Cybertron Starscream is a bit of a letdown. I was hoping for Sunstorm.

I agree with you on this, whilst I do like these moulds, there are a couple of niggles that make them good, but not great. The red on Ironhide doesn't pop like I expected it to, and the different shades is odd and one of the leg panels likes to pop off easily. I don't mind the shield, it kind of fits with the body gaurd aspect I've got in mind for him.

Prowl is my first experience of any Siege or ER Datsun (I do have all the dat bros from Universe/Henkei). I like the transformation, but the clear plastic on the legs expecially around the pins does have me slightly worried. I know it's down to the parts count, but I would really have liked some shoulder missiles.

Which brings me to where can I get the 3rd part missile launchers I've seen some others here using?

As you've said, it is interesting to see how much the CHUG has evolved over the years. The Classics figures weren't quite as well articulated, but feel chunkier in hand and I wouldn't be afraid to drop them. WFC figures are exceptionally well articulated in most cases and are great renditions of the original G1 line ups, but they feel a bit like some of the Universe 2.0 figures in that there is a fragility to them. Ironically I'm thinking of the Prowl, Silver(blue)Streak and Smokescreen figures with the occasional tendency to have damage to the clear plastic door wing assemblies.

WFC has provided a great starting point for returning fans though, and in some cases opportunities for long term CHUG collectors to swap out some of the older figures. For me it's been the Voyager Seekers, Soundwave, Megatron, Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl ER Prime and Grapple. A lot of figures however, won't be going anywhere.

    New toy thoughts

    "Goons."
    "Who?"
    "Hired goons."

Runamuck looks great. Nicely articulated robot mode, proportions look spot on and he just exudes an air of "You wants I should crush his trachea?" energy. Only think is he really need something else to break up ALL that white.

Nifty transformation. Bit difficult to tab together at the end but overall pretty good toy and decent articulation. Feel like he could've done with another small colour application to break up the massive white rectangle in bot mode but that's about it.

Liking Sunstreaker a bit more than I thought I would. Yeah the clashing yellows don't help and I wanna rip his soul patch off but he's solid and looks near. Not not using his vents backpack as a gun because that's silly.

    Here. Have a spare targetmaster.

Transformation is basically a less fiddly version of Wheeljack's. It's good in that there's less bits to pop off but at the same time not as involved/fun.

    Vehicle mode is nice though.

Cyberverse Grimlock is...not worth £21. I got him for £12 delivered off eBay. If I spent more than that I'd be miffed. The plastic feels odd, kinda spongy. And the joints are loose but he poses well and the colours pop. I don't like how his "sword" looks like a jalapeno cheeto.

Crown not inclouded because I chucked it in a box as it's too big for his noggin. T-Rex mode is meh. the transformation is just a touch too fiddly to be really enjoyable and the results ain't great. The other colours don't break up the gret enough. Also his legs/robot mode arms lose the ability to bend at the knee so he can't pose.

However the cheetoh really helps here. He's ok but I wouldn't bother with him at full price.

I'd probably say Runamuck is my fave of today's new toys. Good transformation, looks great in both modes aside from looking like a white obelisk.

As a new collector, I feel like WfC has allowed me to build a really strong foundation to my collection. I have a solid lineup of G1 bots that look like they should in my head. For a lot of people, that's the goal and I've seen folks talking about stopping collecting, but for me it's the opposite. From here on out, I can just buy cool bots that I think are fun or look cool or whatever. I think the only nostalgia itch I have left to scratch is Carnivac, because he's one of the toys I specifically remember having and loving. Not holding out too much hope there, however.

The NuRID BB guns are a neat nod to the toy's G1 twin handcannons I reckon!
