OH I see, the image was teasing Grimlock. Holy shit that was a fuckup on me, I should've recognized that Gnaw as part of the set.
Holy mackerel he has gold parts. I mean @Phamduc already told us but actually seeing it is cool. Very nice shade of gold too. It also seems the clear plastic piece that covers the Autobot insignia is partially painted now? It has dark edges.
Wondering if the grimlock differences people are seeing our both Hasbro and Takara respectively. Takara is always doing their own decos from these lines. Im betting the more toon accurate colors are probably ours while the toy based colors are theirs. Or maybe i have it flipped. Lol
Takara doesn't do their own deco on mainline figures anymore and haven't been doing so for 3-4 years now. The differences in colors are between renders, test shots/early samples and final product
Exactly. What we could be seeing is the difference in before and after paint correction. I have to keep reminding people that on the SS Reveal Webisode, they stated that they didn't have Grimlock in hand because they were having to make adjustments to the paint. I suppose the real question is which one is the actual production run version. Honestly that will go a long way to helping me decide whether to pick the figure up or not. Edit: I also noticed that Grim's toes have been changed to a more golden paint than the bright yellow seen in some of the early promotional photos. Here's hoping to the fact that this will hold for the entire figure.
For a studio series figure Kup looks really blocky.......and given he’s the transformers equivalent of Methuselah it is both appropriate and hilarious.
That group shot is amazing. I can't believe how far we've come. I love you Hasbrooooo/TT! All my nerdy dreams are coming truuuuuuue
I'm so glad that they changed the color from that bright, cheap yellow to a cartoon accurate gold (which is even more accurate than standard gold would be, because it's not super metallic). This Grimlock is pretty much a perfect, more detailed while still super accurate update to the cartoon design.
That gold is the perfect compromise between the flat cartoon and the shiny toy. Significantly improves my opinion on Grimlock, and I am now eager to pick him up.
A shame about the lack of clear plastic on the neck, and the decision to cover the robot mode Autobot symbol with such dark plastic that you can't see it is really odd, but that gold is a huge improvement over the yellow, and it's nice to see that his t-rex arms are articulated at the elbow.
Umm Grim is gorgeous and all and oh lord the temptation is real, but is it just more or does his shoulders end abruptly. I mean it's round as it should be but then just ends in this odd flatness. It's like they left off a piece to round things out, it even looks like something could clip up there. Either way I think MP Grim might just have been replaced as "THE" Grim for my Classics Autobots.
