I would really get a DX Mirage 262Ba if Bandai does get to it and forget the Elvis Draken.

However Bandai has to make changes to the transformation on the DX 262 and make it less frustrating and over engineered.

a U.S. based EBAY seller, $340 shipped UPS.

the seller had two new units available, and between the first buyer and myself, both were gone within a 24-hour period.

nope, no FAST packs, either. i prefer my VF's bare...

Heh. Have you ever built one of Bandai’s 1/72 kits? They’re ... very complicated, need a lot of detailing, a bit fragile, but nice to look at.

not something you’d want to handle / transform often. A lot of times they wind up with stress marks. The 262 kit was especially bad this time around (although it seems to be generally agreed it has a better transformation than the DX figure).

vs. like, an HG Gundam model kit, which is usually pretty quick to put together and fairly solid for play after, too.

Ah, nope I have not touched any of the Macross kits. Built a lot of Gundams though and loved them so figured they would be the same. I was warned to not buy the VF-25 kit since it isn't as fun to transform or even pose and exactly like you described.

That is too bad since I'd love to have some of the Valkyries that are vacant on my shelf, but will take the advice and avoid these. Thanks!

What deruberhanyok said... they need a TON of masking and paint. It comes with decals and stickers to try and get it to look decent but it doesnt really work. I only finished it as a matter of pride because I felt defeated by this kit. Took me a year and half to complete and I wanted to toss it, more than once, in the trash during that period :lol

Here is mine and some of the things I had to do:

    Paint canopy
    paint pilots
    mask canopy
mask and paint the blue pattern
mask and paint the white pattern
mask and paint the black on the front
mask and paint the purplish gray on the top
    decals
    panel lines
ankles broke on me so I had to repair and repaint
    paint the drone charger
    etc etc

its too much work IMO, Bandai doesnt put the level of care into these that they do on Gundam kits. Also there isnt really a guide on how to mask so you mainly have to eyeball everything and hope the lines come out ok.

Holy cow that looks so amazing though!!! Much better than the toys. A shame that you had to do all that work though, but man does it show! I wish I could like that post twice with how much you did to it.

Also, I was not aware that the other part of the pod was a drone charger. I honestly did not have a clue what it was till now. Heh, now I need to go read more about the details of these guys than I originally did. Thanks for sharing the photos and information about the build. Plus that will definitely put me to the "I'll pass" level unless I have the skills you just talked about and take modeling seriously.

I used to call that other side of the pod the salad dispenser until some friends told me what it was :lolol  Another thing to note is that there is some partsforming involved at this scale. The only ones I can remember off the top of my head are the pod and landing gears.

Oh Well, too bad. i knew i should've asked around here again first.

even so, the price was right... i FINALLY had the funds well and truly secured... and i did not wish to take any chances
on missing an opportunity that managed to actually present itself at the ideal time, for a change...

for being a problematic model that you spent a protracted, laborious period working with, the final result looks Smashingly good.
in fact, on first sight, i mistook it for a DX toy. Congratulations...

Hahaha! That's even better than what I thought it was. I thought it was a speaker.

Hmm, that is annoying that it is also a partsformer. Guess it makes sense though given the size and that it isn't a real toy.

Yeah, I was saying sold...if it was in DX form. I don’t have time to deal with Valk kits but I did just crack and order the latest Figure-riseLABO.

Got my YF-29 in along with a big chunk of other things. Not bad at all. Everything seems tight and fine, even the shoulders. It's my second DX Chogokin valk after the Draken, so I don't have a huge number of things to compare it to but the quality seems comparable. Definitely easier to transform than the Draken. Used a bit of clear nail polish to tighten the balljoint on the hand for the gunpod, but had expected to need to based in previous mentions of that being loose.
