rewatching the most important anime of my anime life.

 

Evangelion never really did anything for me. I saw it after-the-fact, rather than in the moment, long after being exposed to a great number of other series inspired by its more cerebral elements. So while I recognize the series for its history and importance to the medium, I find myself distracted by its flaws more than anything.

I'm at episode 5, and holy shit this went from hilarious to "oh god, what the fuck" in a damn hurry.

 

Well to me, I had my interest in it because it was one of those shows everybody was talking about, but also because I was a huge fan of Digimon Tamers and it was compared to Evangelion in some of its themes and writing.

Now the reason I say it is the most important anime in my life, it's because along with Zeta Gundam, it was the anime that changed me as an anime fan. Up until around 2010, I was a big shonen fanboy. I was a fan of kid-friendly franchises. I was used to stories full of action and friendship and happy endings with little to no consequences. Evangelion was the first anime that gave me something unlike any of what I used to see. It was dark, depressing, freaky. It opened the path of me wanting to have more serious anime that takes itself more seriously and doesn't promise happy endings. Evangelion opened this path, and Zeta Gundam sealed the deal to me in what I want to see as an anime fan. Without Evangelion, I might be stuck watching Shonen junk till this day.

 

Oh yeah, I totally respect that. I can definitely see how Evangelion can hit people differently, depending on where in their anime fandomhood they were exposed to it. For me, it was just a bit late.

 

I watched todays Maoujou de Oyasumi and it was just so funny as usual.

I'm going through the Fate/Stay Night visual novel. The anime just didn't click for me, especially after UBW and Heaven's Feel. Heard the VN is better. I've been getting into the Fate Series thanks to my love of historical figures.

 

We watched episodes 3-9 off Overlord tonight. I've gotta say that Ains is like how I love to play RPGs. I love to overpower myself so I can dominate my enemies and watching that in anime form is just awesome. If I were stuck in an RPG world, that is exactly how I would be playing it.  

Now with that said, while I am enjoying the series, I can't say it will ever become a favorite of mine. The plot seems to be moving at a snail's pace and I'm not sure what direction this show is exactly going in. Still, it is entertaining and the soundtrack friggin rocks. Though, I don't get why Funimation censored fucking in the subtitles for the ending theme. This is Blu-Ray, there should be no censoring at all.

 

Overlord is awesome, currently on ep 3-4 of season 2

 

I am getting near the end of Bakemonogatari. Senjougahara is my favorite character.

 

She doesn't appear much later on, as the focus later on is on other characters, but when she DOES appear, she is the highlight of the arc.

 

the DEEN version of it? IIRC, it's more of Saber's route with the other two thrown in making it into a clusterfrack of an anime and did put a lot of new fans off. At least with the VN, it's more separated like the latter 2 releases. I remember watching 2 episodes before I decided that I was done with this crap and forgot about it.

I've just been rewatching "Is the Order a Rabbit?" because I can use a cute SoL pick me up throughout this week and the last. Also, I love Rize & Chiya, so it's good to see them get some focus too

 

Wow, Macross 7 is actually good. Basara was finally useful.

 

Watched the first episode of the new Love Live anime, it feels a little different and a little bit of familiar. Caught a few callbacks from the previous series, the most interesting part is their school. Is there an actual school that look like that in Japan? It's so different and feels almost futuristic.

Black hair girl (with green tints, sorry I didn't get her name yet) had the most development but she feels very different than the other characters, is she new for this anime? Because the other girls did exist before, I've seen them in some materials but this one girl seems like she came out of nowhere.

Not complaining because from the first episode I really like her.
