You can definitely tell. For Bluestreak, in package look at the area where the car part meets the leg part. Closed knees will have a thin piece of clear plastic there. Open knees will not. This pic is closed knee.

Yours are open knee. You wouldn't be able to see the tooth on closed knee

Which is the preferred version again? Open or Closed?

I don’t have any closed knee out of box but it seems open knee holds the roof down a little better in alt mode. In addition to the knee difference, there are tabs molded into the open knee version’s roof that tuck into the gap in the open knee area.

Open knee seems to be better for altmode cohesion, hence the tabs on the roof too.

I figured mine had to be, but that explains why I couldn't see the tooth on the copies at the store the other day. Cool, I know what to look for.

I only have closed knee version of smokescreen and both bluestreaks but that clear plastic knee joint is pretty thin as is, so while the open version may tab together better in alt mode, the structural integrity of the knee joint might be weaker down the road. I like to see alt mode in hand maybe once for a phot shoot, but these guys look so good in bot mode that that is where they will stay so if closed knee is sturdier, I prefer that version. Prowl arrives today so I'll see what version that is.

I posted this in ER Appreciation thread.

Ok I thought I'd take a serious minute for helping anyone still confused about the whole open knee thing with the ER Datson mold.

I have both versions Bluestreak is "open" knee and Smokescreen is not.
Look at the clear plastic on Bluestreak. You can see the red knee is exposed and open.
On Smokescreen the painted clear plastic (red) is a straight line across obscuring some of the white at the knee joint swivel. He is "closed" knee.
On the roof of Bluestreak you can see two clear tabs hanging down that go into those gaps.
Smokescreen does not have these tabs.

Hope this helps, my camera is less than stellar.

So if Bluestreak is no longer on the Walgreens site does that mean I'm outta luck? Is it possible he'll pop back up there?

Pretty sure it will pop back up again. Walgreens is not going to shell out for an exclusive distribution for the few that went up. I’d just keep trying stores and keeping tabs on TFW, Reddit, FB collectors groups, etc.

Thanks. Retail hunting is not an option for me due to a medical situation, so I'm hoping to get this online!

After a long time hunting I was lucky enough to get an order in on the second round. Unfortunately, there seems to be some kind of delay on Walgreens' end. Basically a shipping label was created with the normal 2 day eta, but the shipping status changed to pending after 2 days and has not seen any updates. Fedex told me that they are not in possession of the package, and Walgreens said that they don't have it in their warehouse since Transformers are shipped directly from the manufacturer. So seems like I'm a sitting duck until Walgreens actually sends my order out. Has this happened to anyone else?
