After finally getting him (mostly) to both versions of each mode and back he's definitely a transform once and leave on display toy. All the parts that got extra paint are too tight and the unpainted parts are just too loose to compensate. I've got him back in robot mode and that's where he's staying until the eventual heat-death of the universe. At least the paint job looks awesome!

So a little "fit" work has to be done on him. Got it. Glad I got that sandpaper kit handy. Needed it for shiny Caelus' swords (the hilt was too thick for the hand port holes akin to the swords that came with Triton).

Tons on the gun so avoid pegging that in anywhere if you can, around the peg holes that the legs plug into, and on the pegs that hold the chestplate on in bot mode but that's not as bad since it's covered in every mode but the Optimus Prime mode.

EDIT: This is only my first experience with the Jupiter/Apollo mold so a lot of this is just frustration with the mold being completely new to me and the instructions being useless.

Hm, that's sad. Seems like this is really as you said, good only for display in bot mode.

Yeah, those colours are actually beautiful and I do kind of love this. Just.... Plopping down that much in Aussie dollars and I don't know where Chosen Prime's based in terms of shipping

    Bloody beautiful colours though

*Sigh* This is why whenever there's a choice between metallic and non-metallic paint I always go for the latter. "But metallic is so purdy!" They say. Sure, it's purdy for the five minutes it's on the figure - less so when it's on my hands or the floor. Why so few companies seem capable of doing it properly is beyond me.

TCP is in the US. Your best bet is probably through Robot Kingdom in HK.

I have not heard any complaints about their Metallic Swoop, Grimlock and OP.

My best guess is .... they rushed this out for TFCon. Always sucks when this happens.

Yeah, Planet X figures have had a good track record for paint so far. That's why I bought this. Let's hope I learn my lesson for next year: "Good track records exist to be broken. Never buy without first-hand impressions."

If it was just that I couldn't put on the armour pieces, I'd be fine with that. I prefer the inner form anyway. But if the paint just comes off when you look at it, that's unacceptable. I might not even unbox him.

Sure, as an example, this is the armor on one of the shoulders:

Shame, I can see the paint flaking off all over the place.

Yeah, I might get him someday for 70, and if that never happens, then I am fine with not owning him.

Ya, it’s definitely falling off everywhere. It’s quite frustrating if I’m honest. Especially when your fingers turn blue just from touching any of the blue parts.

I dont have mine in hand yet, but the irony of this set is that I was considering getting the UM version and painting it like this before this exclusive was announced.

As someone who owns several PX metallic figures, I have yet to experience any paint flake. Mind you, I very, Very, VERY cautious with the figs and accessories. But so far no flaking.

Yeah theirs sounds more like a one-off QC problem with the paint. As bad as the fit and finish is on mine, the paint's actually consistently good minus a few scuffs from my own ignorance of the toy.

Do the hammer and gun combine at all on this guy? It feels weird to include such a tiny hammer that does almost nothing more than turn into a panel.

Well, I watched Peaugh's review - he didn't mention anything about paint quality, so... that's good? Also, to the other poster that asked why the gun splits in half, Peaugh shows that at appx. 12:35 in the video. He doesn't know what it does (nor does Emgo in his Appollo review).

Regardless, maybe Peaugh's review will sway some people on the fence. Still haven't hit 'ship' on mine, but this calms my concerns about the paint for the time being.

Posted these a few days ago in another thread. It's nice. I sort of feel done with transforming robots for a while. Sadly, both shoulders were chipped out of the box. Glad I got it, as I'm a fan of the Powered Convoy colors.

    Both shoulders are like this.
