Looking at 2.0 coming out, was wondering if anyone has an opinion of the best versions of MP Starscream and his crew. Robot Hero? Takara? KBB?
LOL. Judging from the back in forth in Takara and Meteor threads, I'm pretty sure everyone has an opinion on which is best, and pretty sure none of the opinions are actually objective or factual. I've owned MP-11 moulds, KBB KO's of MP-11, and all three of Maketoys Seekers and their Conehead, and I've watched the Takara thread reasonably closely for info on their latest release. For me it's Maketoys Meteor. I actually posted my analysis a day or so ago: IN the end, what you prefer will depend on your taste, your budget, and what you want in your collection, and of course whether or not you're willing to play the current game of QC "russian roulette" with Takara releases.
I feel the ToyWorld Coneheads are the best quality version of them out there, though their faces are terrible. They have an odd joint in their upper legs that is annoying, but otherwise they are completely solid with none of the flimsyness of Takara and MakeToys. Hopefully the upcoming Zeta reissue will be as good, and I keep hoping they will release the standard Seekers, I need someone to actually release a good quality MP Starscream/Thundercracker/Skywarp.
It's possible they are the best figures, I dunno...I would never consider them, though, due to the idiotic size they made them.
If it’s toon accuracy the MP-52 hands down, undebateable. If you are just looking for a nice overall representation of Starscream at a cheaper price then wait for Meteor EX. Don’t waste your money on the old MP-11 molds, they are outdated as hell.
MP-52 for the cartoon (making Maketoys obsolete) MP-03 for the plane mode Robot Hero OS for the scale of the plane mode There's still room imho for a release that gets all these right.
I said for toon accuracy. In which it is not debatable. It is objectively the most toon accurate MP Starscream.
Reason I asked this is because I've got RH Starscream, and it's awesome in its size and presence, but looks out of place next to MP-36.
Again, tossing around words like "not debatable" and "objectively" in this context is false. There is nothing objective about your opinion that Takara's Starscream is more toon accurate than Maketoys Starscream. Many people feel differently. The bot-mode kibble on back, sides and wings, the bloated torso, the huge mess hanging off the underside of the alt-mode - these are all real, and visibly detract from the appearance and are not accurate to the cartoon design. I, and many others, feel that Meteor is just as toon accurate, and in certain aspects is MORE toon accurate. More importantly, the simple fact that I am typing this, and disagreeing with your OPINION (and it is nothing more than an opinion) means that BOTH of your above statements are false. 1) I am debating you on the topic, therefore it IS debatable. 2) My opinion is that MT is better while your opinion is that Takara's is better. They are both opinions, both therefore subjective and neither one is therefore "objective". What you actually meant to say in your original post is: Of course that would just mean that what you think is wrong, because, again, I can debate it. Even if my opinion was objectively wrong, which it is;t, I could still debate. What you probably should have said was Arbitrary false declarations and conflating your own subjective opinion with objective truth is not helpful to those asking for advice. I'm not one of those people who demand that we all have to append "in my opinion" on everything, but I do object to people trying to deliberately misrepresent their own opinions as fact. Of course, I didn't think I needed to explain this, hence the original use of a very common meme. It's great that YOU prefer Takara, and it's great that YOU think its more toon accurate. It's also great that MANY OTHERS feel differently.
Anyone with 20/20 vision can compare Meteor and MP-52 to the animation and it’s pretty obvious which one is closer. Not saying MP-52 is perfect, but it does objectively come closer to the toon. Now, that isn’t saying the Meteor doesn’t have some toon qualities, but again if OP prioritizes straight up toon accuracy then yes the MP-52 beats Meteor in this regard overall, especially from the front. Not an opinion. I’m not coming from any bias, I think both are really nice looking figures, but we all are pretty familiar with how Starscream looked in the toon and I think it’d be pretty dishonest to say one isn’t obviously more accurate. The head mold/color and legs alone speak for themselves
