I can only assume there was no specific request for which Megatron they use. Personally I would have thought they'd have used his TLK design for a few reasons but 07/ROTF possibly might be seen as more iconic.

Yeah, it's the one that's the basis for the 'cleaned up composite' version that appears in the Universal Studios Movie Ride.

Movie Megatron is easily more iconic to modern audiences than G1 Megatron ever was.

That’s why they picked it for the Evergreen design I’ll bet.

I can unfortunately believe this, which is just really depressing when you consider that movie Megatron was such a non-entity.

Though ultimately it doesn't really matter because even if he is more recognizable to modern audiences, that doesn't really mean anything.

Still kind of a nifty advert.

We just gotta wait for a followup film that introduces a Megatron that doesn't look like a mutated potato.

I can't see ROTF Megs without thinking of the deformed parody from Panty and Stocking anymore.

I must be the only one who actually felt a tiny twang of nostalgia seeing that design again. :(

I did! Same with hearing Hugo Weaving. I am a bit biased since I think ROTF is Movie Megatron’s best design, but still.

Is it bad I am amused by the fact they used ROTF Megatron (my favorite live action Megatron) for the commerical and yet the film the showed on the screen to back to all of the robots is DOTM

I absolutely love how the news article points out several times that this is "the very first" 2007 Megatron, when it's most definitely not.
