No, I’m very sure this is supposed to be an amalgamation/loose interpretations of German ships. Not only does it very much look like the Bayern and Konig, but the other three figures in the line are of German design as well IIRC.

But these two SMS Bayern and Konig are dead ringers. Again, a few things have been changed but I think 100% accuracy isn’t exactly what Toyworld went for.

I actually do mean THE uber-famous Bismarck. How many ships have an amid-ships set of catapult rails going right across from port to starboard? There's nothing like that on the Bayern/Konig class AFAIK, and it's rare on any ship. But pretty clearly evident on "Jetfire". And the large chunk of superstructure immediately behind it also isn't on the Bayern/Konig, but fairly reminiscent of Bismarck's hangar. (though perhaps it's for boat storage----the cranes sculpted on the sides could certainly be for boats)

I can't believe I'm saying this, but there is, somehow, a precedent for flying boats in Transformers. Shoulda called him Boatwater though. Missed opportunity.

 

Holy crap thats a crazy cool idea! Who doesnt love battleships? This is whats so great about 3rd party stuff!
They can just do something thats nuts, just because it would be fun for people to have.

Yes I agree an airship would have been cool. My only thing is Michael Bay did not believe in mass shifting, but it appears IDW didnt get the memo. If Jetfire's scale is SR-71 size, a bomber is the only way to go. But if we go by the IDW concept which included mass shifting than an airship is perfect. Especially since Airships actually had an accessible inside inbetween cabins, adding to the believability that the main portion of the ship could transform and isnt just a bag of air like a blimp.

 

I’m very dissapointed nobody has made the Yatchtfire joke yet. That was official after all.



Also, General PSA to all those in the thread. The word Battleship actually refers to a specific type of Warship. Warships are the general term used for armored ships designed for naval combat. A Battleship is, again, a specific type of Warship, just like how an Aircraft Carrier is another type of Warship. Calling any Warship a Battleship is like calling every car on the road a Semi truck. There are several types of Warships. Just wanted to spread that info to help stop a common misconception!

I think what makes it not work the most is the proportions of the limbs in the combined mode. The chest is bare and the legs are way to long.

Hey that's fair I just dont like the bare chest and super long legs. But who knows it could have some potential to be good.

that is an incredibly imaginative fake british battleship.

the ram bow, cross-deck catapult and aft deckhouse are clearly from the 30s modernizations of the Queen Elizabeth class, and the twin stacks are from Renown/Repulse. the bridge looks like the QE class rebuild or the KGVs, but massively cut down and retaining the original tripod behind it. with the midships casemate guns, i'd say the closest analog would be HMS Warspite in her WW2 configuration, but with the bridge tower dropped down to the original conning tower level and retaining the original tripod, and having two stacks like Renown.
