Does the sun shine on Cybertron? Or is it always dark and gloomy...?

To an extent, I think it depends on the particular incarnation. Wasn't there daylight in Fall of Cybertron?

Generally, I'd say no. Cybertron usually doesn't have an atmosphere to diffuse light (I'm probably using that term wrong...I don't know what the scientific phrase for that is). It's sort of the same effect that the moon has if you look at NASA photos. There's enough light to illuminate the environment (I'm assuming Cybertron has a sun), but not a proper sky to provide Earth-style daylight. You're always seeing space...it looks like night. Just a well-illuminated night.

In flashback scenes of the original cartoon there was sunshine, see War Dawn, but for the most part it was dark in the modern day. Maybe, Cybertron's sun went Nova or something.

In the Marvel run the war knocked the planet out of its orbit and sent it drifting through space.

I mean, it has to have an atmosphere. Otherwise fires couldn't burn, sound couldn't travel, etc.

Of course Cybertron has daylight, we just rarely see it because night is the appropriate setting for the war.

I suppose it could have a thinner atmosphere, or maybe an atmosphere made out of some alien substance that's completely transparent, but still allows fires to burn.

I suppose I never thought of Cybertron scenes being at night. I always assumed that was just the look of the planet. It's certainly an option, that's just never how I took it.

And how would Chip, Spike and Carly survive more than 5 minutes on Cybertron.

As with all things in Transformers, it depends on the continuity. In Marvel G1, Cybertron orbited Alpha Centuri before the war sent the planet careening through space. Sunbow G1 doesn't make reference to any star, but Beast Wars and Beast Machines show Cybertron stationed around a sun and having daylight. Animated Cybertron orbits Hadeen. Aligned Cybertron orbits an unnamed star. IDW 1.0's Cybertron orbited a star, as did Cybertron in the IDW Bayverse comics. I don't recall exactly what Cybertron's orbital situation was in the Unicron Trilogy, but there were what looked like daylight scenes in Energon and Cybertron, so I assume it was circling a star there.

It's all depending on creative license. In G1, Chip is fine on Cybertron without a spacesuit but didn't Jack need a spacesuit due to lack of an atmosphere?

Yeah, and at the end of the G1 cartoon, the last part of The Rebirth, Cybertron is revitalized and the planet seems to have daylight like what was seen in War Dawn. I believe it's described as a new "Golden Age" on Cybertron.

In BM, yes. Also, I'd say yes, as solar energy can be used to power their everyday objects as an alternative to Energon. However, like many things in Transformers, it depends on the continuity.

As posted by others, it depends very much on which continuity were talkign about. Another very important element is whether or not the planet orbited a star. No star, no daylight. While a star (and no clouds) means daylight.

In G1, be it Marvel or Sunbow, the majority of the time there could not have been daylight. In Marvel Cybertron was knocked from orbit and became a rogue planet without a star (thus no daylight). In Sunbow we see daylight in the past, but in Ultimate Doom Cybertron is transported to the Sol system and then knock away again. If it was close enough Sol could have provided some daylight, but we never see it near a star. At the very end of Sunbow it was again brought to Earth hence daylight from our sun.

Interestingly enough, in Beast Wars/Beastmachines which is part of a G1 continuity (not truely sunbow, not truely Marvel), we see Cybertron near a a star (again), thus daylight.

(I can't remember other universes good enough.)

In the comic,Marvel comic back in 1984, Cybertron revolved around Alpha Centauri. So being a star, it was emitting some for of light.

I think the better question is, does it have daylight savings time? I gotta remember to change my clocks this weekend. :)

Does cybertron even orbit a sun? We know it's orbited by two moons and later Unicrons head. I can't remember if it was mentioned or not. I mean it'd make allot of sense for the autobots to make use of solar power energon. Maybe it died or they drained all the energon out of it. Theres no organic life on Cybertron so pretty sure cybetronians don't need sunlight to survive.

Depends on the continuity. Sometimes, Cybertron is just a metal ball flying in space. Other times, it's orbiting a star.
