Great post. And who knows.... in 30 years time from now, the transformers toyline could become so far advanced, that they'll make the Earthrise figures look like a joke. Our great grankids will grow up playing with transformers that mass-shift for real, and hide kibble in pocket dimensions.

The reason the shelves [at TRU] were packed and stacked was because that was the ONLY place to get Transformers. Sure, there were a smattering at department stores or Sears, etc, but that was it. You had no other options. Toy hunting was a requirement, one that many parents weren't too keen on undertaking during hectic, multi-store errand trips in the pre-Target/Walmart days.

I was born in '78 and remember it quite differently. There were many dedicated toy stores back then - KB, Child World, local mom & pop places. You could get toys through the Consumers catalogue, at Sears or K-Mart, and also at lots of basic general stores. My town had a general store and a stationary store that both had big TF wall displays. They were everywhere.

Yeah, TF was everywhere although of course the big toy stores had the best selection. I always preferred Children's Palace to Toys R Us. Service Merchandise was always the lowest price around here and got stuff super early. Kay-Bee was decent but prices were usually bad until stuff didn't sell after which you could find some great deals. Still nice to have a full toy store in the mall though.

Venture, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target, Sears/JC Penney/Montgomery Ward catalogs, etc etc. Local general/variety stores. If anything today's market has significantly shrunk minus online.

Those bricks were indeed mesmerizing back then. But compared to the more advanced versions, especially the Hm, each one had a unique mold unlike how Brainstorm is like Blurr or the Dinobot's Sludge and Slag have almost 80% shared parts. Cost cutting and all but back then......

I think they might only be rereleasing the TR figures that are actually supposed to be Headmasters, since it's apparently only 2 waves of four figures each, with the 8th figure being POTP Punch/Counterpunch.

If P/CP is indeed comes, give him his anime accurate weapons or just the G1 weapons.

Honestly, I was amazed at how smitten some of you folks are over these.

For the record, those TR figures from the last wave (Misfire, Windblade & Twin Twist) didn't really sell well from where I am.

Retailers in my country had to clearance these pieces at around USD $8+ in order to move them from their shelves.

I had all these MOSC for sale & it took months to finally move them.

Even their LG equivalent remained on shelves for a very very long time after release & nobody was making a mad rush over them all.

Before the country's lockdown in April this year all the way after post-Covid period by June, people could still walk into specialty shops & buy these pieces anytime.

crazy. I never even sniffed Misfire, Perceptor or Twin Twist. Saw Top Spin once and regret not grabbing him.

The idea is to sell the original headmasters. I am hoping that if these sell well they will then do the targetmasters. Problem with that being that half of the original Auobot targetmasters will be in SS86, and only 1 of the other three have been made so far. They're unlikely to do a wave of 3 Decepticons and only one Autobot.

Sure there is. Budget. Every piece, especially separate pieces, adds to the cost of production. And Hasbro has a set upper limit for the cost of each toy. Now, I don't like that there's this limit, but that's how Hasbro works, and all the disappointment in the world isn't budging a corporate giant's line budget.

Sorta makes us wonder why he came with a Prime Armor piece in the first place if he couldn't form a arm nor a leg. Perhaps to make him compatible with Prima, but still.

And maybe give the original 2 other Autobot Targetmasters the respect they deserve.

Yeah but they are unlikely to do original molds for an exclusive. Some have suggested Pointblank from Punch/Counterpunch. Thoughts for Sureshot?

I guess Retooled Siege Mirage or Sideswipe might work. It's kinda funny that Full Tilt is even suggested because of the Legends comic, though it would mean they need a work around... Isn't Full Tilt gang molded with Trypticon?

Just throwing it as his front wheels already gave off the vibe. That or a really new mold. But will TT/Hb invest at such?
