Still a pointless fight when they fight mindless controlled opponents. That's not fun. The opponents need to be themselves, and talking.

On the contrary. Transformers are better with visual diversity. No one would say Andrew Griffith, Alex Milne, Guido Guidi, Livio Ramondelli and Kei Zama draw the same. Or even broadly similar. But they all knew how to consistently draw these inhuman robots in different poses and different angles page to page in their own style. And it almost always looked really good.

The reboot IDW line has largely been plagued with artists who simply lack the talent to draw these robots. Drawing Transformers is far harder than drawing people. People have curved, muscular shapes. There is less lines and an absence of straight lines. Angles and poses are easier to draw for human superheroes than robots because of the human shape and our innate ability to recognize it. And on top of that there have been MANY costumes dropped over the years because they had too many lines, too much detail. Economy of pencil lines is a thing. Simply: it'll take longer to draw a panel with Transformers than most people.

The IDW reboots main art crew humanizes and cute-ifys the art specifically for these reasons. It's not simply stylistic. It's mean to to enable an economic production on the line artists part. It's meant to mask skills that, franlkly, are not up to the task of the straight line, hard edges and inhuman shapes of Transformers. Ya know, drawing Wolverine's mask is the most complex thing about him. Now consider Starscream or Ultra Magnus.

It's worth saying again and again because we're not talking about the bygone age of a two decades ago. This isn't "Jim Lee is my only X-Men Artist", Transformers edition. IDW had a great art team two years ago. Really. the books were consistently the best looking books on the shelf from any publisher.

Now though, we get the B-squad telling perhaps the least interesting version of the start-of-the-war story we've ever got. It's real sad.

don’t know how drawing transformers can be difficult all your doing is drawing boxes on top of boxes with detail on inside of those boxes transformers big blocky giant legos humans are not say drawing transformers is easier but little time consuming with detail I finished drawing idw transformer seeker in matter of minutes with no color and some minor detail humans take me longer with muscle and costumes and detail on costumes

Alex Milne still showing his face around here eh?

I didn’t like his hyper stylized, anime look last time around. Things certainly haven’t changed

Still convinced that it's a bunch of half truths and spoofing considering the narrator. There's no way he could've witnessed all he tells us.

Boxes on top of boxes? Have you ever taken an art class?

If your vocabulary is any indication of your artwork, I'd stop.

He said he did it in minutes, maybe he's got a youtube video... I want to see "boxes on top of boxes" and "big blocky giant legos." Totally comparable to professional artists.

Oh my lord. Must have all covers.
Hey bud, your "boxes on top of boxes" and "blocky legos" look like that?

Lol. Don't get your hopes up.

Drawing an illustration of one transformer is entirely different than cranking out 20 pages of multiple transformers, settings and storytelling month in and month out consistently.

It's why Milne and Roche for instance is so good because they don't just draw the tech, they're able to visually show them having emotion and body language past the usual stock-type action poses of TFs shooting or punching each other.

Those are just smaller boxes on boxes.
