G1 hands down even his design from that series has survived and been referenced and re used if it wasnt for that series we would have never even gotten his fire truck interpritations which i do like from RID 2001 and Cybertron/Galaxy Force

 

My vote has got to go to the Optimus who is the most well-written.

Animated Optimus Prime.

 

I'm not big fan of G1 Optimus Prime. I can say G1 Optimus Prime is most favorite at all Optimus Prime version. But the company ruined him in The Return Of Optimus Prime.

 

Animated OP is the most enjoyable iteration in how expressive and relatable he was. His underdog status, instead of being the mighty leader of the Autobots, and his rivalry with Sentinel makes you root for him and, frankly, you would never get Prime OP or any recent incarnation showing surprise, awkwardness, anger or hilarity like he did.

 

Character wise, G1 OP.
Visually, BB movie OP.

 

I feel this is the most difficult question in Transformers... Optimus Prime is always so similar anyway it's really hard to pick a favorite.

I know which ones are my LEAST favorite... Armada can't remember anyone's name and tries to SAVE the villain Prime... and Animated who wasn't really bad exactly I just felt like he wasn't really Optimus... like if they called him Orion Pax I would of been more accepting of David Kaye's take on a younger version of the character.

Oh and RID2001, I love the design but I feel like he was really lazy as a leader, often just standing in the Autobot base and rarely actually going out into the field himself.

 

Between him and that show's Megatron, I think RID 2001 easily wins the "Least Active Leaders" award. Megatron in particular seemed to be altogether too fond of sitting on his behind and letting his troops do the work for him (even early on, when his entire army was composed of incompetents), despite his awesome design.

 

Agreed. I love that show for it's designs but the fact that Optimus and Megatron/Galvatron rarely ever go into the field made them feel really lazy. Yeah we'll just send our troops into the field and let them fight it out.

This is especially bad following the Beast Era where Primal establishes in the first episode that he'd never give an order he wasn't willing to carry out himself.

And I really wanted to see more of their awesome designs in the show. Omega Prime is still my favorite of the Optimus combines with another character designs, I also think he had the best super mode. Cybertron Optimus with Wing Saber is a close second but Optimus and Ultra Magnus were the best. Too bad they hated each other and Ultra Magnus joined the cast later in the run so they didn't have a lot of chances to form Omega Prime even when Optimus did go into the field. Megatron had 6 modes, Galvatron had 10 and we rarely get to see them cause he's mostly in sitting on his ass mode. I think each of his modes were only used once each except for robot mode and the hand mode because they had a whole gimmick of him actually forming a hand for his torso shaped space ship.

Visually, it's IDW, largely from the Alex Milne Chaos Theory/MTMTE Orion Pax designs and the main Optimus design from Phase 2 and 3. It's probably not a popular opinion but I love his character for most of "Death of Optimus Prime" onwards, particularly under Roberts, until we got to the whole Earth Annexation and disappointing Unicron stages of that continuity.

G1 will always hold a special place for me as an 80's kid but it was IDW that made me a TF fan again as an adult.

 

Armada, Movie, Animated, G1, Primal and IDW/G1 the rest are meh

To be honest, I don't really have a particular Optimus Prime, as I'm more enamored by the concept of Optimus Prime than any particular iteration of him. That said, whenever I think of Optimus Prime, I hear Peter Cullen's line readings from the Sunbow cartoon in my head, so in that regard, I guess you could say G1 cartoon Optimus is my favorite.

 

Design wise Shattered glass just blows them all out of the water for me personality wise G1, Movieverse and IDW/G1 Followed by TFA Optimus are his best portrayals and I also have a fondness for Shattered glass Optimus prime to.
