Finally finished my custom Crosshairs. The original toy is an absolute favorite of mine from childhood. The moon buggy alt mode and targetmaster gimmick are just so awesome, especially for younger, space obsessed me. I was so happy he was getting a new figure but was disappointed it didn't copy of the moon buggy alt mode. Well too many dollars later I've corrected that. I'm not really a painter or customizer in general but the internet came to the rescue. He has the Toyhax label set applied, 3d printed tires and bumper bought from Alphamagnus on Etsy and the Pinpointer that came with Takara Legends Windblade. So happy with how he's come out. Here he is compared to my original Crosshairs from the 80's. Really struck me when they were placed together how G1 Crosshairs is a lot smaller than I remember in my mind's eye. I wouldn't have guessed they were the same height.

I was able to hit up a Ross yesterday, and, tucked up in the back behind a bunch of Cyberverse Sharkticon-Hot Rod packs, there was a lone Astrotrain. Sadly, the knees aren't strong enough to even keep the backpack box on, but he's magnificent.

 

Starscream - "You think you're some kind of big tough guy, what would you say if I thought you were an idiot bore?"

Soundwave - "I would just flip you the bird!"

Starscream - "I knew it you coward idiot bore! You'd do nothing!"

Starscream - "AH HA HA HA HA!!!"

I really like Freejack's color scheme. If I see a used Siege Seeker cheap somewhere I may try repainting it like that.

 

Thanks, I always thought that paint job would look sweet on a Siege Seeker the first time I saw Starscream. The $5 Thundercracker at Walmart just sealed the deal for me.

 

Best Siege Megatron to have? If you already have the original is the Netflix version still worth getting?

 

I think it is worth getting. The gunmetal plastic and silver airbrushing is gorgeous on that mold.

Best version is very subjective. When you think of Megatron what comes to mind?

Got fond memories of the original Megatron toy? Netflix WfC is probably the closest to that, short of a chromed version getting produced.

Is the original cartoon your jam? I think the Earthrise retool is most like the G1 animation model. The head on that toy is really terrific when you see it in person, but for some reason it doesn't photograph well.

Prefer the Transformers: Devestation video game? 35th Anniversary cel-shaded version might be the Megatron for you.

If you want a Megatron that fits in with the other Siege toys, and their painted on wear and tear, the first Siege release is probably the toy for you.

There honestly is no wrong answer, every version has its place.
I think I would happily re-buy Earthrise Megatron if it were released in the Netflix WfC colour scheme because that colour scheme is so excellent.

I'll echo what Shattered Trousers says - the best one depends on what exactly you're looking for in a Megatron figure.

I really liked the G1 toy despite it's flaws, but I'm definitely more of a G1 cartoon guy than a G1 toy guy. Personally, I prefer vanilla Siege Megs, followed by the Earthrise one. The Netflix version is cool but it doesn't look like it would fit as well with the rest of my collection and isn't worth the additional money IMO. 35th anniversary isn't bad, but the cell shading isn't my cup of tea (though they do look better in person than I thought they would).

There's also the Generations Selects Combat Megatron and the G2-style ER one, but I just don't care for their color schemes.
