Turns out this wasn't my week with Mirage related figures. Last night I wasn't thinking and applied too much force when splitting Siege Mirage's legs in car mode without first untabbing the chest assembly. Cracked a tab. Sigh.

A friend of mine bought a Red Diaclone KO Mirage a few years back and the quality was outstanding.

Commiserations @cr3d1t on your mixed, mostly negative experience.

My KO Sunstreaker had an unpainted right leg and the same issue with the arms being blocked by ill fitting parts. I painted the right leg very simply and the joint holding the car hood/robot feet crumbled! I managed to glue it back together and happy with the result, but it has made me think twice about trying to do any other clean up.

I have been in possession of a few KO Mirages and the boxes have subtle differences. I presume the "Ages 5." is the older one while the newer one corrected to "Ages:".
it also has a missing space on the bio, which the "newer" one doesn't have. do you know which one you have, I couldn't see from the photo?

I opened the "older" one and structurally it looks pretty good and transforms well, albeit with a loose waist. The front Citanes 26 tampograph scratched off terribly easy, so I cleaned it off and replaced with an Autobot emblem.

Sorry for the late reply! I didn't see your post until just now. I took photos of the front, back and top. Mine has the "AGES: 5 & U P" on the front. I see two missing spaces in the bio where it says "...altering hisphysical [sic] placement andappearance [sic]..."

Thanks @cr3d1t , your version is the one I haven't opened.

Other than a slightly loose waist, the variant I have seems about perfect but i expect you've had enough of gambling your money on these and trying to get sellers to guarantee a particular variant may be difficult, unless it's a private seller.

    The saga continues...

Bought a junker Mirage with good diecast parts and good plastic parts (except the waist swivel, of course). Gonna Frankenstein the KO and original together with the best parts from each. Create the ultimate G1 Mirage. My god, I've gone mad with power.

The story continues! Two months later I finally worked on this again. So I took apart both the KO and the junker and built a hybrid. Generally, I kept the original blue plastic parts and kept the KO chrome parts. I fixed the waist swivel using an cut construction nail because I didn't have any Lego antennae to sacrifice. Sorry ToyPolloi! It's not perfect but works. The legs use the KO diecast parts, the KO sliding leg mechanism and the chrome feet. The top part uses all original parts except the chest (missing on the junker) and the inner arms (were yellowed on the junker). The weapons are from the KO. The new swivel isn't quite centered which is a slight disappointment but I'll be displaying him in robot mode most of the time anyway. Car mode, even if it was perfect, is too floppy.

Other bits during construction, I found a crack in the inner blue chest part that the arms slide on. Can't tell if I caused it but I doubt it. Superglued it and it should be fine. I did however screw up a bit and cracked the car body when getting the chest back together. I didn't think I forced it that much, but I guess the plastic was more fragile than I realized. It's just a stress crack and hasn't fractured all the way though.

The tires are from the KO. The junker tires weren't too dirty but one of the front ones was the wrong type. I don't have any way to pull the pins to replace the rims. The KO wheels are really floppy.

The blue plastic parts on the original are slightly yellow. The blue on the KO is brighter. Washing helped to bring the while parts back to almost normal.

I got a Toyhax reprolabel set that I'll apply the missing chest and car stickers. The "Citanes" side panels are too blue for the plastic.

That was an expensive G1 Mirage!

I just ordered a set of Carded Constructicons, but I have no intention of opening them as the main appeal to me was to have them MOC.

I think I got a ko Mirage, and it looks good, but they should replace the plastic swivel pin with a die-cast one. My ko Octane is missing half the tail rudder

I just got a KO Mirage, and one of the silver feet/tailfin fell off immediately. I can tell that it is because part of the silver piece is not molded exactly right.

Is that a common problem with the KO?

I'm wondering if I should bother trying to get it replaced or just ask for a refund.
