I've never been one for this aside from army building things like Sharkticons.

That said, I preordered two SS86 Grimlocks so I could have one in robot mode with my 1984 Autobots and one in dinosaur mode with my 1986 Autobots. I'd initially planned to use PotP for one of these but the implementation won me over.

Just to display twice? Nah... IF I get multiples, it's either to custom, as a spare (of those I really like) if the one that's out to play/display was to break, or display as an army.

I don't "display" my toys, I play with them, so the "displays" are where they sit until I grab them. I just have them look good while they sit awaiting their turn.

If it was just for display, I'd just get porcelain clowns or something like that...:p

Never done that. Only time I've bought multiples of the same character was this year since you need 3 Refractors to make Reflector. It annoyed me having to spend €70 on three of the same figure.

If you mean the exact same figure then never.
But I bought Sunstreaker, Red alert and Sideswipe because I love the mold.

Double dipping for the sake of having display options just seems like a great waste money.

Quite a few figures in my collection have a double so I can display one in each mode.

I'll totally own up to this. I do it.
    DoubleOne.jpg

In one extreme case, I've double dipped on a titan class.
    DoubleTwo.jpg

Earthrise Doubledealer is going to get similar treatment.

Gonna be honest, I kinda wished I grabbed two Megatronia sets back in the day because I never expected to love them so much. Same with the CW "Rookies".

I never really have done that. I've bought two Ironworks but that was for my MM display. The only other figures I want two of is ER Optimus for a vehicle mode display and P/CP for obvious reasons.

I also may buy doubles for custom purposes.

I’ve only ever bought multiple copies of the same figure for kitbashing purposes. I was never really into troop building or having a side-by-side alt mode/bot mode display.

    Not often, but yes.

In fact, after buying a set last week, I've been wanting another Astro Squad to keep displayed in alt mode with Cosmos.

I got two Prime RiD Vehicons to display them with my Megatron, but that's the only time I've bought multiples of a figure specifically to display them together.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Siege Refractor, but I'm not sure if that counts, since you're SUPPOSED to buy three of them to combine them.

The Seacons I bought 2 sets, 1 for Piranacon and the other for Beast/Fish mode. Then I bought King Posieden so now I can do Robot Mode.

I wish they sold Cerobros and Lord Zarak seperate so you could display the Figures together there head and robot modes are killer.

I occasionally buy two copies of the same figure. I Toyhaxed Earthrise Optimus for display and then picked up another for transforming and messing with. I also just bought a 2nd Earthrise Hoist because he was only $15.99 and I love the character.

If I could afford it I’d buy two of every figure but that’s just not feasible.

I may get the Devastator rerelease to display the Constructicons individually.

Very rarely, but more often in the last couple years.

    2X Generations Scourge
    2X TR Scourge
    2X POTP Punch/Counterpunch
    6X ER Soundbarrier
    6X ER Slitherfang
6X (eventually, when I find more) ER Doublecrosser
    2X TR Gnaw
    2X ER Allicon (BBTS POL)
    2X Quintesson (BBTS POL)
    Pit of Judgment set

And though not technically double-dipping, I also have the Hasbro CW Constructicons to display as Devastator, and the undersized KO set to display in their individual robot modes. Oddly enough, I love how big Devastator is, but I feel like the individual Constructicons were too big. Mass shifting to the rescue!

Since the question is 2(+?) to display twice, but not army builders, then just a few.

-Titanmaster weapons Brawn and Ptero I have one solo and one wielded.
-Bought multiples of 3-4 of the Siege Battlemasters with most being wielded
-2 Slitherfangs displayed as shields -but it changes
-Wingspan because of the odd TR/Takara releases. Hasbro one is in altmode in front of the Takara clones in robot mode
-Airwave(s) currently as a two bot combo.

I do appreciate this idea in some cases and have some ‘characters’ displayed in both modes, but I acccomplish this with different figures i.e. WFC Prowl and WJ as bots behind their CW cars. Robot Siege Starscream with the ER jet.

I’ll only get a double to keep sealed as a backup copy...but I don’t even do that very much these days. I don’t usually buy repaints either.

I quad-dipped with Siege Springer. 1 for each mode and 1 sealed in a nice sealed box. Ross helped me to get the final 2. My other double dip was having 2 SS Ironhides with one open and one sealed. (Both from the adoption agency lol) I really never buy doubles or many repaints, etc- but I've decided if there's more than enough to go around, it's secondhand, or financially phesible- my favorite characters will get the special treatment.
