    Peaugh's review is up:

Man, look at how much MMC's design style has evolved in the intervening years! (And with the change from Casey to Byrin.) Much cleaner and more expressive now, like the comic art. Carnifex looks so... Sark-ish... in comparison, haha.

Peaugh missed the flip out heel bits. Although with how big his feet are, they're not super necessary. But depending on the pose, he's got enough on his back that he might be a little bit tippy without that extra adjustable support.

I did not know about the different designers, but that makes sense. I do agree that Tor would benefit from a little more surface detailing, but in truth due to his size and absolute girth, he'll be spending most of his time in the back of the display towering over other figures so the lack of detail ultimately isn't that big a problem for me - not that it was one to really begin with since he looks excellent anyway.

Always felt like Carnifex was the best of both worlds. The Sark era had a lot of little greebles and detail and very fiddly transformations, but Carnifex had just enough detail, just enough of a fiddly transformation (would have been super straight-ahead without those damn shoulders). But like the modern MMC, Carnie's transformation was fairly intuitive, and he was religiously faithful to Milne's art.

I actually miss a few things about the Sark era. The MMC figures had a bit more engineering and a little more in the way of accessories and the transformations were really good. There have been really fun transformations since--Turben and Stray are my favorite third-party transformations ever--but lately they seem to err on the side of too simple.

Yeah Cassy did usually understand how to make a mold fun at least, Turben is criminally underrated by the fanbase for example. If we ever do a Whirl 2 I would want the transformation and posability to be nigh identical to Turben just with the more milne specific styling like the raised claw-jaw head, pincer hands and solid cockpit. All that and the paler blue of the comic people would be head over heels for a v2.

Theoretical Calidus 2.0 as well I would want the alt mode to be as close to Cassy's as possible but with more moving pieces and particular sculpting around the chest and upper body and the legs to be larger. If some of that mass of the torso was relocated on to the legs you'd pretty much have perfect Rodimus I reckon.

Really a shame for Whirl. Hate to single Bobby out but from his review, it really sounds like "THIS IS BAD BECAUSE THIS ISN'T MTMTE WHIRL AND IT'S USING OBSIDIAN'S MOLD TO SHOEHORN THIS IN THEREFORE IT'S BAD".

I'm not entirely sure if Obsidian indeed was the original moldholder or Whirl was intended to be but then held back due to whatever, but this is as close as we've gotten so far to nailing a Stormbringer Whirl, and I think Turben does that awesomely. Still gotta put in a PO for the restock at BBTS myself.

At the same time, I of course wish that we see a Whirl 2.0 that hits the MTMTE design, but that in itself also shouldn't mean Turben 1.0 immediately should be thrown to a wayside. Both would serve different purposes and would serve them VERY well.

I'd jump faster than ever on a Calidus 2.0. Would love to see kind of an amalgamation of Calidus and Hot Flame, though streamlined, personally. Not to mention, i'd ADORE if he was given the above and beyond treatment Orion Pax is getting, on top of that, if that doesn't end up becoming the standard for MMC by then. Extra faces, shitton of accessories, just gimme the works, haha.

I think it'd also go PERFECTLY with a hypothetical IDW Post-AHM Phase 1 Rodimus for Infinite Finity, now that I think of it.

Turben is a great figure. Too many folks have been put off by reviewers who don't appreciate it enough for what it is rather than what they want it to be.

I agree turben is really underrated and still captures Whirl's essence very well.

YES PLEASE. This and a comic-accurate MTMTE Cyclonus are my most-wanted MMC figures.
I'd be down for that. I have Lost Light Calidus, so I could still pick up a new mold in classic colours without feeling too much like I was double dipping. But I already like Calidus enough that I don't want a new Rodimus as urgently as other characters, haha.

Yeah, I think I'm learning to assume that it'll be the last week before anything comes in regarding pre-orders for stuff.

Agreed. Turben is loads of fun!
I finally reviewed it back in April (I was late to the game) but I couldn't see why it got such a lukewarm response by others. It was incredibly fun.

Yes! I get that it’s not a perfect MTMTE Whirl, but easily one of my favorite Reformatted figures because it’s so solid, super playable, and a fun transformation that is simple but not exactly easy either. Probably my MMC figure that’s been transformed the most. I’d love to see a Whirl 2.0 at some point, but I still love Turben.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN. GIVE US THE TURBMILNE

I don't see how a Beast Machines figure wasn't a premold--Whirl is much better known and also much more in line, despite the Stormbringer styling, with MMC's IDW focus.

Bobby also doesn't seem to really care about transforming and usually bungles it. But I can confirm that Turben is worth buying just to flip back and forth. I especially love the little fine work with his thin little vanes, which has that Hasbro level of creativity but with that really fine detail you can only get on a 3P

(also, I know the theory of why someone would buy TFs but not like transforming them, but it still doesn't make a ton of sense to me. They are fun because they are figure, car/plane/animal and 3D puzzle all in one.)

Yeah, it's a bit of an oddity with no definitive answer.

@LazyAza I wanna assume Whirl was planned first but then maybe something happened where Obsidian somehow took precedence? Is there some sort of answer to the mystery that is the Whirl Kerfuffle?

And yeah, from what I saw, he definitely looks like one great article. Just put in my pre-order for the restock at BBTS.
