The robo kibble is well hidden for a mainline toy but damn that plastic looks unappealing, as if it was molded out of wax!

Not all that bad, considering even MP seekers hang bot on the plane underside.

 

After careful thought, I decided to keep my pre-order. That clean F-14 Tomcat mode is just so hard to say no. That being said though, I'm still not fond of how bland he looks in robot mode. Now I'm no customizer and I'm horrible with paint but I would not be opposed to see what kind of upgrade sheets Toy Hax might be able to come up with for him. Perhaps a Sky Striker or Jolly Rogers style sheet.

 

Where's the cheapest place I can find one? I really want a maverick, but he doesn't look like a $50 figure with the poor paint and the minor amount of plastic in the mold.

 

Someone knows if Hasbro has plans of repaiting this mold for a modern G2 cyberjet?

 

I really hope they don't...this mold is pretty bad, the Cyberjets deserve better.

 

I know but I don't think that they would do an entire new mold for them, is more easy for Hasbro just repaint/remold them and sell them maybe as Generations Selects.

 

Now granted, this is $110+ more and this too is licensed but what a difference paint and color make:

Comparison of F-14 maverick and F-22 SS06 Starscream. Scale well with each other.. i wonder if the F-15 inspired Earthrise Starscream fits in as well...

 

Pretty close, maybe an inch too short

 

They could potentially build on top of this framework.

 

This image really shows just how bad the deco is on Maverick. Why couldn't they have just made it grey plastic with no dirt? It actually would have been cheaper to manufacture as well. The deco is killing an otherwise decent crossover figure for me. Also the fact that the box does not match the retro look of Ectotron and Gigawatt. Oh well, money saved for me I guess. Gigawatt is crazy expensive in Canada so I guess it's good that I'm not interested in this one.

Sorry to be a downer on this release. I just love jet transformers and the F-14 so this is really disappointing for me.

 

Because Maverick wasn't a "retro" tie-in. He's a tie-in with the Top Gun sequel that was supposed to come out this summer before everything went to hell.

 

Still hoping for a Cyberjet to be made out of this mold.

 

Fingers crossed for the inevitable repaints. I really, really dig the mold itself, but won’t buy a toy that looks like it’s made out of dirty soap.

 

I wouldn’t mind an all new Cyberjet G2 Jetfire/Hooligan mold made with the same transformation as this. Would prefer a new mold with the same transformation since the NATF alt mode of G2 Jetfire/Hooligan is different from an F-14 with the only similarities being the aerodynamic surface placement and swinging wings.
