Judging from this picture of MP-51's undercarriage, it looks very similar to Big Firebird's Nicee, which is in turn basically the same as Classics T30 Arcee. I was hoping MP-51 would have a more interesting/different transformation scheme, but I guess there's only so much you can do with the Arcee design.
I kinda hate that laying down pose on the side of the box. I know it’s a trivial thing but it’s weird
She's really channelling her inner "babysitter stereotypically laying on the sofa while using the parent's landline when she should be watching the kid" that was popular in 80s/90s movies.
Yeah actually it is that pose isn't it? I mean shit I shouldn't complain I was sexualising TFs before Takara even started but the difference is this is Takara stock photography, they should really do better than sexualising female TFs without sexualising the male ones. Like, either put the males in risqué poses as well and make the whole line weird, or keep the females in their action poses! I say 'sexualising' here but I realise this is pretty tame in that respect, just can't think of a better word for what's happening here 'demure'ising? domesticating? just playing to stereotypes? At least Blackarachnia's pose fit in with her characterisation in the show, even though I don't remember her actually posing like that before.
Some of those poses are probably why her preorder sold out so much. They evidently understood their market. Personally, I won't be putting her in the babysitter pose, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who will put her with the rest of their plastic waifus and that was the point they were trying to get across.
Well sure it's for their market but it's still weird as hell. I guess that whole market is weird as hell, but I think it's ok for us to say "woah that's weird" and not really the kinda message we want to send to anyone. The women transformers have to hang around while the male transformers get to do all the cool stuff? There are some cool action shots of Arcee, fortunately. Anyway just a weird choice to put that exact pose on the side of the box. I liked to display my carbots boxes stacked up with those sides facing out, and Arcee's won't fit at all compared to the rest of them.
I like the pose on the side of the box. She's a girl. It was a children's cartoon. I like that she's shown as a bit more playful than the other bots. If some people think it's sexualized that's fine and dandy, but I can't see it and overall I like it. I'm too excited for Arcee to arrive just after the new year.
Was that supposed to be blue text? Her car mode is the best part of this figure by far and I may even display her in car mode next to Hot Rod who is my current alt mode favourite.
I wouldn't call it sexualization, I think this is a "knee-jerk" reaction, but it's just a stereotypical feminine pose. Takara has gone to great lengths to show off how poseable the figure is by putting her in these poses, and they can't help themselves since this is their first female MP figure if I recall correctly. If you want sexualized poses just look at 99% of anything Bayonetta, that's sexualization, and I think there's a difference between selling sexuality and showcasing femininity.
Spinout looks great. Face sculpt and low chest/long clavicles on Arcee never got improved before release so easy pass for me, but glad that others will get to own/enjoy her who don't have issues with those things.
I guess that's the thing that's bugging me about it - 'sterotypical' Anyway it's fine to say 'Well it's Japan' but Idk, doesn't really make it ok with me ¯\_(._.)_/¯ All-in-all, still super excited for Arcee, think MP-51 looks great, and I look forward to putting her in some cool poses.
I mean hey, you do a better job than Takara anyway! I personally don't care, Takara does what they do and I can't really do anything about it. I either just say something or keep shut. It being put on the box though is just funny to me since it's like one of those "stars aligning" moments, haha. Though it is still tame considering anything else to be seen elsewhere in the genre. Hell, even in Transformers. Don't even get me started on Kiss Players. Please. I'm personally still concerned about how the QC will end up, first and foremost.
Honestly, with the exception of the face lacking paint, Earthrise Arcee is just superior in everyway. The fact that one is a mainline $20 figure and the other is a masterpiece, but I think you get more bang for your buck with the mainline makes me sad. Of course, that pose on the side of the masterpiece box makes it worth all the money.
