Been reading Newegg sent some EVGA 3080s without the box and not even packed good. Almost all that got sent that way got bent some way.

Selling your 3080s that (most likely) meant for prebuilds...wow.

They released a lot of Konami games, too. The Castlevania package, though, seems to be getting a rough ride.

Do we know if they came from Newegg proper or from 3P sellers on Newegg?

Ill have to read more into it but some of the pics make it to be Newegg proper since they also bought other items that were boxed with it (one was a PSU that was in its box). Plus EVGA made a statement on it.

Can't believe I didn't mention this until now, but Samsung's 980 Pro M.2s are up for order online.

    Amazon

    Newegg

    $90/$150/$230 for 250GB/500GB/1TB

PCiE 4.0 compatible, legit the most monstrous SSDs to date. Just know though that the write durability on them (on the 1TB at least) is half of the 970 Pro. Listed at 600TBW, so you still have a lot of durability on that shit, but it's always good to know what you're dealing with.

Hot damn. I think I’ll survive with my 3900XT for a long while, but it’s nice to know my mobo is but a bios update away from working with these new beauties.

Ya they got pricey. But then again I’m not in the market for a CPU.

I dunno, the Ryzen 5 series chips always seemed excellent bang for buck, although Intel’s 10th Gen has - thanks to Ryzen slapping them across the face in 9th Gen - been extremely competitive.

So stock of 3080 seems virtually nonexistent. Lameness.

Hi everyone, I was considering buying an M.2 SSD for my PC's motherboard so I could store a few games and a mass amount of 3D stuff on a faster go. How reliable are they though? If they fail, is that data gone forever unlike pulling data from an average HD with bad sectors? Thanks.

In general, as long as it's a brand name (or at least a known one), they're reliable. That said, they do have a finite amount of write/read. I know a lot of them have a bare minimum of like seven years (they'll go beyond that, though) and there are plenty of options for backing up the data so it's not lost.

Generally, when data is lost on SSDs, it's gone. If not gone, corrupted. Still, that's not the everyday norm and not something to worry about today.

SSDs have become far more reliable in recent years, especially NVME. Me, personally, I'd recommend SSD for the C drive, HDD for D and beyond. If you did go all SSD, you'll be fine. It'll be lightning fast, too.

Similarly to how @TFXProtector put it, just go with any well-known brand name and you're set. Personally, I say stick with either Samsung, WD or Corsair.

The part you wanna look out for in terms of reliability, is the TBW/TeraBytes Written rating. For example, the 980 Pro (Samsung's brand-spanking new M.2 series) is rated at 600 TBW. Which, fun fact, is half of the 970 Pro's at 1200. Nonetheless, still a fantastic rating. So even if you have a 1TB drive, that shit'll last you a real good while, and I think the rating cut is worth essentially double the performance of the 970s.

Personally though, i'd recommend using an M.2 for your OS/boot/C: drive, a SATA/regular SSD for your games, mainly due to higher maximum capacity and that they can usually take care of a majority of the speed discrepancies in comparison to an HDD, and then an HDD for everything else.

HDD's I think are not something you should get due to many games now I think pretty much need an SSD for good gameplay, HDD are now only good in my opinion for storing files like documents, etc. But a QVO 1 TB from Samsung is only $99, and you get so many benefits of spending just that extra $50

Also depends on the type of games too. If you're into a good amount of retro-gaming or non-AAA type titles, a good sized HDD would help for those types while saving SSD space for the heavy duty modern titles.

Also just wanted to state that supposedly the rumored 20 GB RTX 3080 and 16 GB 3070 have been cancelled and have 2 good sources confirming it, I am interested due to RDNA 2 having 16 GB and also beating 3080 today with the Firestrike scores, though Port Royal had the 3080 crown, the Navi 21 XT won the rest
