Can't relate. I want the toys from shows I like to be updated to a modern aesthetic and certainly not look like the character models which often look like shit with bad proportions, massive kibble, lazy transformations, alt modes that show robot parts ect

Please explain this reasoning to me.

You needed to create a thread simply because you don’t understand how someone can have a different opinion than you?

I think Floro Dery is an amazing artist. His proportions look exciting and dynamic to me.

Were you around for G1? The toys looked like a mishmash of styles. The cartoons and comics were where everything looked cohesive for the first time for many of us. So we're attached to those takes.

You're not looking for an explanation. You're looking for confirmation bias. You took the time to list out every problem you have with toon accuracy, instead of just asking why people like it. You are clearly looking for others to join in on your bandwagon of hate.

Now, to answer your question: Some people want physical representations of the characters they grew up watching on TV. And there's nothing wrong with that. And if today's figures (both mainline CHUG and MP) have proven anything, it's that toon accuracy is achievable without any of the problems you listed.

Same reason why I would love cartoon accurate UT designs.

I generally don’t. I usually use reprolabels to add toy accurate details when I can. Though if the designs have to be “model sheet accurate” I prefer Marvel accurate colors if I had a choice.

People are emotional creatures, I have a strong attachment to the G1 cartoon - the happiest days of my childhood - so I enjoy physical representations of them. Very much. It's also the longest running and best narrative the brand had overall in my opinion so toys of it are desirable. Also, the engineering, paint, design etc. are so much better than they were years ago it's novel to see this level of accuracy/quality in a toy.

WFC is an update though, there's a lot of added detail and a bit of a toy/toon mashup aspect there so I think it's the best of both worlds. That said, no way will I pass up any SS'86 offering, I waited a long time for something like this. If you weren't around that long then maybe that's why you don't get it.

I don't get going at other fans. There's plenty I don't like and have ZERO interest in chiming in places that are celebrating things for others. I guess there's many factions of this fanbase and you just want something different. Remember opinions aren't facts.....and I can't help but laugh a bit at people saying today's G1 toys are unnecessary because "so and so" just got a figure update 10 years ago....WTF. If you don't wanna buy it then don't but the absurdity I read sometimes astounds me.

Like other people said, people want accurate representations of what they saw in whatever cartoon they grew up with. It does lead to simplified visual designs & unnecessarily complex transformations in the case of G1 Masterpieces, and even though I personally don't like them I can totally see the appeal of bringing these characters to life with modern engineering. It's more like a childhood dream fulfilled for many to have their favorite characters looking exactly like what they saw in the cartoon unlike the original toys.

Same for Beast Wars, even if following the character models leads to the toys looking like the early, low polygon CGI of the cartoon, you get that "Roger Rabbit" effect where they look like exact 3D real life representations of what we saw in the show, those look freaking fantastic and to me they are the high points of the Masterpiece line.

Honestly, we have so many options these days so if you want modern-reinterpretations you have the Third Party offers and to a certain extend the Generations line, and if you want exactly what you saw in shows/movies you have the Masterpiece line. This is legit the golden age of toy collecting in my opinion because of all the great offerings from so many lines.

I grew up watching the cartoon, that was my first introduction. I had the original toys, a lot didn't match. Now I want my figures to be representations of the cartoon I loved. At the end of the day it's whatevers your preference. I'm quite please we have cartoon accuracy, after previously having more toy accuracy

I don't want cartoon accuracy. I want a "best-of" approach. Cartoon/comic proportions/profile with toy detail and where applicable/possible, authentic to the real world vehicle. I don't want "stepped right out of the cartoon". I want an approximation of what the character would look in the real world. I want the characters brought to life, not simply looking like a low-budget animation model.

Cartoon accurate figures look unfinished to me, spartan, undetailed. MP44 Prime, for instance, looks terrible because of adherence to the cartoon look - grey where he should be silver, like his face and his waist stripe; lacking in details like his truck mode stripe, the simplified stripe on the trailer, and lacking in sculpted detail like rivets on his shoulders and other places like MP10 had.

What worked on the screen just doesn't translate well to a 3D version IMO.

The cartoon was based on the toys, so if anyone is to blame for that lack of "accuracy" it's the animators.

Well, yeah. If you want toys that look like the original toys just... get the original toys. Cartoon accuracy means you can finally own the characters as we remember them on screen.

I don't want over-the-top "toy accuracy" either, at least not regularly. That's not what a true-to-life version of the character would look like either. I want a blend of the different interpretations.

The only person who seems to be hating here is you. He simply stated he doesn't like the toon-centric approach, and why. He's starting a discussion by stating his POV. You're the one taking it as an attack.

"Why do you guys like this thing that I think is shit for these exact reasons? I don't get it."

That is the jist of his post. He's absolutely looking for people to agree with him. It would be the same if I started a thread titled "Why do you like Animated?" And the first post would say, "Can't relate. The character designs are absolutely terrible, they all have really dumb looking Jay Leno chins and their bodies are entire too round and smooth. It doesn't make sense. Explain you're reasoning to me."

Now see, all of my feelings in that example are 100% genuine. But you can tell by how I worded it that I don't actually want anyone to explain why they like Animated. I just want others who agree with me to chime in so I don't feel like I'm alone. But if I simply ask, "Why do you like Animated?" and leave it at that, it's an actually an invitation for discussion.

Fair point. My interpretation of your and his posts may have been colored by being blasted on Facebook for the last 2 days for hoping that a third party makes door wings for SS86 Jazz. Lots of "Why would they do that? It's cartoon accurate!". I even had a guy try to tell me that the old FansProject armors were "accurate" rather than their own takes on the characters. (His entire argument was that every 3rd party add-on was in service of accuracy.) Got tired of being told I was somehow wrong for wanting options to bring the figure closer to my ideal look for the character.
