Pops right on, even fits in the chest cavity for alt mode though you have to orient it into the right angle because the antenna are just barely too tall. Still hoping someone eventually makes a proper pair of heads for this guy though.

Seeing this thread bumped reminds me of how many PCC figures I missed and how great the line was. Hasbro should have reissued them for the 10th anniversay!

I miss them a lot. I'd kill to see new ones with the advances that have been made in the past few years with figures.

Unfortunately, my Sledge's right hinge panel cracked in such a way that even though I was able to repair it, I'm wary of ever transforming him again.

To say nothing of PCC Mudslinger who is still living in a drawer in his basement because one of his legs cracked in half. Not sure he even can be repaired at this point.

After many years, I finally got a few sets from a local fan/seller, and have enjoyed them just fine...

I used them as a substitute for their "real" versions in a retro-scene in my story, where Kup is talking about old battles, and they were fun to use as "old versions" and their size was fairly perfect for my "Huge Dragon" (Omega).

I really enjoy the auto-transformation, BUT a few don't hold that great.

My guess is that the mobine stuff was at best average, salewise. I know the set and the TFC Iron Army were still available on BBTS until the last year or so, well after the lines were out in the wild. Saw them on sale from time to time.

Heck TFC's Iron Army must have also sold poorly... since TFC would take years before they released their devastator HerQeles set that had PCC limbs. Set wasn't even advertised as such when it did come out. Shame too as it works great on either Construction-themed PCC. See group shot below:

    pcc group.jpg

Much as I enjoy the ideas... the sets were executed poorly. That automorph gimmick and the resulting limbs were awful. There's a reason that Walmart had 2+5 sets for like 10$ on Black Friday. These didn't sell well.

Shame too as there were good ideas... just the limbs, arguably the key of the gimmick, were just... not at all feasible. Dinopope is the only one that frankly works as a combiner. The rest have extremely awkward limbs and a cacophonic theme of limbs that just don't work.

That said... few shots of what the sets could have been... Shame there weren't more kits out there.

This is actually Shapeways pieces from @thedreaded1. Unfortunately he hasn't had them on sale for ages, and I think the shop is closed, even. The crane is actually from TFC HerQeles. It works well in bulking out the otherwise anorexic PCC commander mode for Mudslinger.

Bombshock with the Mobine Limbs. Usually have him in TFC Iron Army, but he's great with either set.
    bombshock.jpg
Maketoys Paladin Chaos is the only other set with a core bot that uses PCC limbs. Years later the TFC HerQeles would also do this.

Swapped the would-be arm and leg bits for Heavy Tread. Got a Crumplezone vibe due to the real thick arms. Hehe
    heavytread.jpg
Smolder with PCC parts... that Jet is an awful limb, but could work as a blaster. That arm looks OK at this angle.

    DINO POPE!

Bout the only one of these guys that looks great as is, no upgrades.

That said... If there were a good set of limbs for these combiners that could be used to replace the spring-loaded nonsense and just make the figure just plain better... that'd be cool. Even had a second Dinopope with the thought of trying it one day. (Never did though.)

Funnily enough I have never had the limbs for dinopope, and only ever the maketoys set which is still a wonderful vibe. Like a weaponiser but better in most ways. Do recommend if you can find an affordable set.

Also you can make a horrible dino mode out of it.

Gives me more of an ED-209 vibe. I have to try it.

Also I guess you got Dinopope via auction? The core bot was never old alone.

Tbh I bought my sets years ago, save for HerQeles like three years ago. Sorry.

I am irrationally obsessed with these combiner sets. These are my favorites

    1. Grimstone
    2. Build Master (g1 constructicon colors)
    3. Crankcase
    4. Bombshock

With the last 2 I try to find drones that best represents the combaticons and bruticus. I wish they would have done more sets that paid tribute to the original g1 combiners, or even the g2 combiner sets.

If you can find an Undertow he makes a great torso for the Crankcase drones.

Undertow and Icepick are fun figs. I just wish they had drones that matched their aesthetic

Did you try the Iron Army sets by KFC for Bombshock?

    Those are very nice.

This line had some really awesome designs (head sculpts in particular) and just rad toys in general. They were less traditional combiners and moreso Superlink Optimus (A single bot with a set of drones) but they were still pretty nifty.

I assume you mean dedicated teams if their own, but while that isn’t something that exists there are a couple of good options like the Destron team drones, or Maketoys Marine type expansion set (the official name escapes me right now).

Yeah this line, while not perfect really spoke to me. It was like the travel or “backseat” combiner toys I always wanted to bring on errands or car trips as a kid, but didn’t feel I could because the old scramble city teams had a ton of extra accessories that I was afraid to lose. The drones and minicons are a lot easier to manage.

Yeah in a way. Its a shame to me the stars of the line never got the drones they deserved. VS someone like sledge that can easily jump in with the construction team and leadfoot with the rallybots(and really replace their shit toy leader)

Funny you should mention the headsculpts...

(The only thing I've seen quite like Steamhammer's combined mode head is the space shuttle Super Gobot I had as a kid.)

The line ended just as the designs (especially of the core bots) was starting to really improve.
