THIS is my favorite Megatron design, by far. I prefer the stealth bomber version to the more common and modern tank version, definitely. Much more unique.

 

I preordered this as soon as i could, and even went in on the site specific preorder bonus stuff.

I can hardly wait to get it.

What I think/feel head cannon wise. This is the first "Upgraded" Megatron, and I can't wait for him to stare down Power Master Prime. This is what this figure actually feels like. All the years and all the Optimus upgrades across all the different shows. This feels like the first real Megatron upgrade mode. He even has cool ass Gundam wings to really show off.

Relatively low amount of copies produced, licensing costs. This guy completely dumps on despotron in the articulation department and the detail work really isn't comparable at all. You're giving up engineering in the transformation for engineering in the ways the joints work with multiple shifting panels throughout the piece to cover up any gaps from articulation. Just from sheer parts count, this guy probably has multiple times the amount of parts of rioter despotron.

 

That's the wrong question. The right question is why is he 2 times as expensive as the offerings from ThreeA? I have offerings from both companies and I think Flame Toys figures are overpriced by around a 100 bucks.

 

Does it really "dump" on him? Maketoys figures do everything you'd want them to do, maybe this guy has a triple super knee bend or other stuff you won't ever actually need. 99% of poses the Maketoys figures can do them already. I think Maketoys proved that figures like this are overpriced you're basically paying for paint and molded detail with half the playability and display options.

 

He dumps on him not only because the range is better but because the articulation has been designed to look seamless and his limbs don't look broken in half when trying to pull off anything dynamic. This is something that only non transforming toys have been able to pull off thus far and you can probably understand why. Not sure how you came up with the 99% especially when something like rioter depostron has a super limited ankle tilt, no butterfly, limited ab crunch that ends up looking broken anyways, limited upward hip swing, single jointed knee that barely gets 90 degrees etc. As for playability and display options, flame toys is the clear winner here. You get way more accessories, more articulation, a display base that gives you even more options and light up features. I'm not sure what kind of playability you're getting out of a toy gun that doesn't even make any sounds. The only thing maketoys has proven is that the cross dimensions line was too ambitious and they've barely made enough money to stay afloat. There really is no argument to be made here. These are different products marketed at different people.

 

Whenever there's a new non-transforming figure thread, there will always be someone that will shit on it for no reason other than "figure doesn't transform so it's not a transformer" or "what can this do that abc can"t". The argument is really obsolete because there is no right or wrong answer. It just comes down to people's wants/needs when it comes to purchasing toys. The whole debate topic is moot because there really is nothing to debate about. You like it? Buy it. Don't like it? Don't buy it. I love maketoys. They are one of my favourite 3p companies to ever exist and it's sad to see them fade into "irrelevancy". But what they offer is completely different from what flame toys is offering. I made a similar analogy(in certain aspects) in mp dinobot's thread way back when but it seems like a good time to bring it out again. Buying a lifesized model of a car is not the same as buying an actual car. Their functions are world's apart from each other even though they look similar(because they are based on the same design, or in this argument's case, character). You liking a certain company's ways of making figures doesn't reduce the legitimacy of another company's work just because their way of doing things is different.

TLDR; @Duskscream This company/line is not for you, but it doesn't mean it's not for everyone. I wish everyone was more accepting of every company's creative license/process(except KOs, fuck them for the most part). You don't have to like everything every company puts out because everyone has their own taste and that would be extremely painful for your bank account but you don't have to rain on someone else's parade just because you dislike something someone else does and vice versa. Just be happy you're not spending more money and move on.

Ah, that's a shame, been looking forward to getting my hands on their Megatron. Oh well, what is another 2/3 months.
