I gotta say, the build quality on some of the smaller parts of this figure doesn't seem very high. One of the small round pegs on the sides of his left forearm broke off on mine the first time I went to open it up. And the shoulder piece on his other arm that swings up already has a big stress mark where it's starting to break off too. I've never had that happen on a figure during its very first transformation.

So I'm slowly catching up on this thread now that I finally have the figure...

Is it correct that the only way to swap the shoulder pieces is to break open a hole underneath the currently inaccessible pin to push it upwards? That is, like, the worst possible design I could imagine for parts intended to be disassembled.

Absolutely epic figure overall, but I wish they'd thought that through better. I'd like to swap at least the backs of the shoulders, so that one side of the planet equator has more cohesive colours... but I'm not sure it's worth that much difficulty and potential damage to the figure.

Has anyone successfully swapped the shoulders, and if so, would you recommend the process?

For now I just superglued the thing back on. Hopefully it stays. That being said I'll probably be keeping him in robot mode from now on.

I wonder if I will ever transform this guy,

At least he can stand there and I know, he can transform.

But to do it, is it worth the price?

It's quite fun to transform it.
Well, except for the first time though.

Is there some trick to getting the the mandible pulled apart so I can reattach the tip? It sucks that I've got an almost perfect planet mode and one of his mandibles is missing its tip.

u can unscrew the mandible and put it together again. I did it when i was trying to repair the bent mandible on my figure.

    YouTube (Handle):
You don't have to break anything. You can push the pins out using the gaps in the hinges.

How much do you guys figure I would have to un-transform him to get to the battery compartment on the back of his head? I bought some LR-44 batteries for his light-up feature but really don't want to transform him back into robot mode yet.

the head pops off pretty easily, so if you can just slide the head out of the front hole. If you can't, going the have to take apart quite a lot of panels just to open it up.

What gaps are those? (Sincere question. I can't see any access to the pin other than the very top.)

There’s open areas around the pins at the top of the panels, but idk how anyone has used those to push them out. All you end up doing is scraping and scratching the pin which refuses to budge. I honestly hate that these are pinned. Should have just been one of those frictioned in methods that others use for parts they don’t want to break. Could have just popped them off but no, remove extremely tight pins.....

Agreed completely. These are the least user-friendly swappable parts ever. Considering how simply the arm panels, wings, and collar -- not to mention the HEAD! -- can all be removed, it's baffling they'd make the shoulders so difficult.

I wonder if they weren't originally intended to be removable, and including alternate-colour parts was a last-minute afterthought.
