It's not totally complete if Lolicon from MW was to see this. @The Sqidd is missing the 1/60 Yammie M&M VF-22s then his M&M collection will be done (minus the DX M&M VF-1J with the Supers which is yet to be made). Honestly saying for now, I'm waiting for a DX Milia VF-1J with the Supers and hopefully it will be made within 5 years time.
I wish I had room for the 22's! I love the 21/22! If Bandai releases DX's those Yammies will get displaced. I'm a DX whore.
Haha, good point but I had a hunch...and was right! Yep! Which is why I had "complete" in the quotes. There is no such thing as a "complete" Macross collection...ever. Yeah, I'm expecting Bandai to do the 21/22 at some point so I'll wait. Of course, I always keep an eye out for the right deal because the Yamato M&M pair would be an excellent and needed addition to my collection.
Thx. I always thought the intake covers were meant to be on Battloid but thx for the heads up Wasn't aware of those plugs but will check out the box later for them. TBH this is the 1st time I've spent time with this besides when it broke out of the box then back it went in and me curled up in the fetus position lol. Lol I guess I'm the total opposite now as I feel like trying acquire the Dx VF-1J is out of my range. I think for all my VF-1's I'm going the Yammie/Arcadia/KO (DONT HATE ME.!) route but for the YF-21 (Favorite) gonna attempt to get a PO when Bandai/you fine folks let me know. Dope set up for M&M btw
Yeah, covers in in Battroid mode but also when you have SSP. Again, I don’t care and always leave them on but there are some intake cover elitists sometimes. Haha. The “plugs” should fold out when you flip the latch open to lock the legs in for Battroid mode. I don’t remember exactly but it looks like you may have just forgotten to flip them the right way when transforming from Battroid. I’m all for KO as long as the quality is up to par and the price is right. Sucks that quality was not great for your experience.
So I finally fullfilled a childhood dream of mine in getting a 1/55 VF-1S Strike. Though couple of things. 1. I'm not to rough, but the strike cannon snapped as soon as I tried to put it on. 2. Anyone know where the screw is to remove the black heat shield and replace it with the clear canopy for Valk mode? I thought it was under the neck in Valk mode, but doesn't look like that's it.
Aw man that sucks! I am sitting here feeling really sorry for you right now on that break. Hopefully it is something that is easily fixed with some glue.
Excellent pickup! I've actually been very involved in a conversation about the heat shield. It's in the landing gear bay, pop the gear out and you will see it attached to the spring. Edit: didn't see you got the response with image above already. Enjoy that grail you have!
I finally caved in and paid the latecomer tax for Bandai's DX VF-1J, supposedly an "opened but not displayed or transformed" copy. I say "supposed" because now that I have it in hands, I have doubts about this. It came without any plastic sheet covers on the wings and tailfins, the joints are way less sturdy than on the other VF-1 (I own all the others) especially the hips and the upper joint on the thighs used for gerwalk, there are some rub marks on the back of the feet and on the wings and the part that got me the most doubtful: the backpack part that connects the tailfins feels kinda rough and mushy when I touch it, the same kind of feel you'd get by removing paint with soft acetone type chemicals (there's no visible damage to the area, it's only obvious when you touch it). Is it normal for a DX VF-1J to be like that? All my other VF-1 are absolutely perfect but I don't know, maybe the first release of the mold wasn't as good as the following ones?
No, I would say my VF-1J is just as clean and tight as the other DX VF-1s (I own all the others as well).
That sounds a bit off to me. Is the seller reputable? If you are used to previous VF-1s like Yamato/Arcadia, they do feel different and some, including me would say the V2 1/60 Valks feel better overall but the DX should still feel like an excellent, high end toy with no issues with rough finishes. Is there anyone nearby you know that has a DX VF-1 that you can check out to see the difference? Or share some pics here if it is something visible.
Thank you a lot for your answers. Looks like I'll have to contact the seller then. According to its eBay feedbacks, he does look like a reputable seller. Maybe he didn't pay enough attention when buying the figure himself (I think he has a second hand hobby store or something like that, he's definitely not selling only his figures). I own all the other DX VF-1 releases and they're all perfect, none of them has any of these defects. I only had doubts because since it was the first release in the line, I thought that maybe it wasn't as good as the following ones. Thank you again
Oh, I was unclear that you have all the other DX VF-1s. I see and get it now. Yeah, there should not be a big difference between the DX VF-1 releases. There may be inconsistencies with some joint or that latch for the leg removal tolerances but no other major quality issues that you mention. Only other thing I’ve seen is the tampo on the side of the cockpit is sometimes not lined up well.
Some more old school questions: Anyone point me to an old school gallery for the Bandai 1/55 VF-1S Strike? I googled and I know like 15-20yrs ago there were tons that I drooled over but they seem sparse now. Curious where some of the stickers are placed. Second, anyone have a scan of the actual sticker sheets? Reprolabels just put out old school labels but they don't seem like all of them. Labels & Stickers for Labels for 1983-84 VF-1S BATTROID VALKYRIE - Toyhax Labels & Stickers for 1984 STRIKE VALKYRIE ARMOR - Toyhax Third, anyone point me to anyone who recast a red heat shield or Strike parts? I'd like to get some replacement for my broken part in case blue doesn't work. Thanks!
Sweet. I'm actually the one who spearheaded the project for ToyHax/Reprolabels. That's my valk on their site and I consulted with them (and they used a designer friend I recommended to create them). All of the decals are there. But the Valk has pre-applied decals and ToyHax opted not to issues those at first. They are interested in offering them later. So, the decal placement that they have on their site is accurate.
