Part 6 is probably my favorite of the Jason movies. The entertainment value is really high with that one. I heard that the director filmed it in such a way, that it would look good as a black and white movie. Fit right in next to all the old Universal monsters.

Also- the director kept Jason’s headstone prop in his backyard and had the cops called on him once, because someone thought he buried a person in his yard. :p

Yeah, I think out of most of the Friday the 13th films I watched, Part 6 might actually be my favorite as well. And that is indeed the intention of filming of the movie especially as an homage to the old Universal Monster movies.

Anyway, I watched The Witches for the first time on Netflix sometime ago.

    Day of the Dead (1985)

I originally was going to watch this last year but gave up; thankfully I picked up again and watched. Out of the 3 Romero Living Dead movies I watched so far, this was perhaps the weakest. I will say that the protagonists here are better than the original Night of the Living Dead; but that movie was more claustrophobic and suspenseful in the end. There's a little character building sprinkled to make the characters (mostly the heroes) a tad bit relatable so we feel supportive for their survival. The military people on the other hand were all assholes; so you were already waiting for these guys to get their due in this movie. This one has an interesting enough premise where we focus on both the military and scientists living in the underground bunker. You also get interesting ideas like zombies regaining their humanity which hasn't really been pushed far as a fully realised concept but it is one reason for making the movie worthwhile.

I will reiterate the movie isn't too scary for my tastes; but it has some good zombie fun to spare. Good zombie flick. So far my rank is...

    1. Dawn
    2. Night
    3. Day

8.5/10; a high number but the other two remain superior.

The Final Chapter is my favorite followed by 6. I love 6, I love the couple that comes across Jason and the woman wants to leave because of how many horror movies she has seen, but I do feel the movie can sometimes get a little TOO silly, which is why I think 4 is better. However, it's such a well written and entertaining installment that the comedy doesn't effect it too much.

    So here’s a funny story.

The last presentation I did in high school was about the Friday the 13th movies & why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky in general.

I put together a little music video using clips from all the movies (only 9 at the time). Among them was this little clip, where Jason looms over a little girl in one of the cabins:

He hears a sound and walks away, but I didn’t show that part.

I DIDN’T SHOW THE PART WHERE HE LEAVES THE LITTLE GIRL ALONE! I DIDN’T THINK IT WAS A BIG DEAL! THERE’S NOTHING TO SHOW! THE SCENE ENDS!

    The class was freaking out.
“What happened to the little girl?!?! Is she okay?! Does he kill the girl?!”
In fact, she is okay. :p

Disney+ has a collection of all the Treehouse of Horror episodes of "The Simpsons" in order.

and it is just PAINFUL how bad some of them get as time goes on.

First one has James Earl Jones reciting "The Raven" & then about twenty years later you get things like Homer being paralyzed by a spider-bite and learning to communicate with the outside world via his farts.

Yep. TO me, the Treehouse of Horror episodes died when the segment Starship Poopers premiered. After that, it was downhill from there with things like House of Whacks, the Harry Potter one, the Mad Max/Hunger Games story, the Night of the Dolphins tale, etc. There's a couple I can think of I legitamately enjoyed Post-Season 9, which includes, "Hell Toupée," "The Island of Dr Hibbert," You Gotta Know When to Golem," "Dial M for Murder or Press # to Return to Main Menu," and "Homerzilla." Of course, the last one is for a specific reason as it's inferior to "Homer Kong."

I decided to save for later the Scooby movies I know are better. That means that Return to Zombie Island and Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! were first up. My thoughts on them will be longer than usual because I kind of intended this for the last movie you watched thread but decided it fit here better.

Return to Zombie Island would probably be the worst ever Scooby-Doo movie if it weren't for the existence of SCOOB!; at least through all the boring padding and absurdity the voice actors were good. The acting was still bad, though. The animation and the acting were both like the people behind it were half asleep. The dull pacing only adds to this.

This movie's plot is two threads loosely tied together, absurd filler and barely any attention done to the movie it ripped its name from. Shaggy and Scooby don't notice that they are right in the middle of Louisiana which is just next level dumb even for a cartoon and the others just pretend nothing is happening. They do everything they can to diminish the threat of the original in this movie between the aforementioned gags, the treatment of the cat creatures and Velma's denialism.

Velma's denialism, by the way, just destroy the character that she had been portrayed as before the latest set of films and replaced her with a stubborn dumbass. She has this dedication to a false idea of science which rejects things that happened right in front of her. At this rate, Velma might as well believe that the Earth is flat.

Still, some of the gags were funny and I liked how it ended on a subtly grim note: With the movie they filmed, there will likely be fans who visit Moonscar Island. With there being a live cat creature running around, these meddling kids are now complicit in luring a whole new set of people to their doom.

Bad as it is, I can't rank it any lower than Kong: Skull Island, All Hallow's Eve or SCOOB! 3.15/10

Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! was definitely a big surprise after the past couple. This is actually better than any Scooby I've seen in a very long time. There's this subtle morbidity to this movie with darker elements that still play on the safe side from Zombie Island, but really push it. We have people seeming to get eaten, simulated gore with pumpkin guts and just more mean spiritedness in general. If those details weren't signs already, this movie is filled to the brim with chaotic energy. Not sure how I would normally feel about that, but it's way better than the flat gags and half-heartedness of RTZI and Guess Who, or the overly moody Mystery Incorporated and it fits the holiday. Like, Scooby-Doo is cartoon mysteries that are usually obvious from the start and just slapping Halloween on the same product would be a little lame. Therefore, cut loose.

There are really good gags in this movie, one of which is also the intro which features the shining gem of music in modern. The current cartoon has a knockoff of the original series' intro... this isn't that, at all. There are scattered references to horror movies throughout.

Still, this movie has flaws and there are some pretty big ones. This movie isn't really a mystery... more like a slightly toned down episode of Grim Adventures extended over 80 minutes. That aspect is mostly replaced by a long chase, actions scenes and the ever irritating Velma having a crisis because of the sheer amount of bullshit going on around her. There are three—I repeat, three celebrity special appearances if you count the Scarecrow—and all are very stupid and unnecessary. Elvira especially lends herself to the worst gags in the film along with Daphne. Bill Nye is there for some dialogue that Velma could have provides herself and just to be there. And why the fuck did they choose a Batman villain to play Hannibal Lector? They could have just gotten the original pterodactyl ghost guy or something like that. Jonathan Crane of all people showing up without Batman is just off.

Still there are merits to Scarecrow being here I should mention. He did add a darker element to it and was probably one of the more intimidating characters that the Scooby gang have interacted with. Honestly, he's the one "celebrity" I would have kept. Dwight Schultz is perfect. It's too bad Kate Miccuci drags down every scene she interacts with him because she's an awful Velma in both writing and performance (Velma confirmed as the next Batgirl?) The actors I was here for (Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Frank Welker as Fred and Grey Griffin as Daphne) are all thankfully good and have their energy back.

Overall, fun to watch and has Maxwell Atoms' name written all over it but with huge flaws. 6.3/10

    They Live

What a strange movie. So between Halloween and The Thing, I wonder I'm not sure how many people would watch this for Halloween if they want some horror from John Carpenter. Going into this, I thought I was going to watch a Body Snatcher's movie. And sure enough, I watched a movie about a secret alien invasion or aliens ruling over humans. Furthermore, not only was this a movie based upon a short story Carpenter read but it was his social commentary on the rich and cooperate I think controlling what people consume and hear in their daily life. Basically, everything in life is a lie that is covered by shades of black and white.

I admit there were moments in the movie that threw me off at first such as the brawl between Roddy Piper and Keith David (Spawn himself and who's working with Carpenter again) but it was well choreographed and I did come around to the fight's reason. Roddy Piper in fact may be replaced with Kurt Russell; but I say he did well for someone who's career was mostly on wrestling. The character of Holly Thompson also seemed a little rushed to me with every scene she was in. Other than that, I think this movie probably should stand out more in Carpenter's filmography.

    8/10

I bought a few things for Halloween, but taking the time to sit down and watch anything is a whole other story. Same with the last few years. I'll buy a few Horror films around this time on disc or Vudu, but don't get to watch most of them.

I finished Tales from the Crypt Season 6 today. We also started listening to the audio book of I Am Legend. We're 50 pages in and so far it turns out the Vincent Price version is the most accurate. DAMN!!

Watching the 1986 remake of Invaders from Mars, and I am noticing that whoever worked on this set was a huge Tokusatsu fan:

yeah crew members of old 1980s horror and sci fi movies theyre fans of either Star Wars or G.I. joe or something.

Like for the old Poltergeist movie, some crew member had a kid that was into Star Wars big time. Thats why Robbie's room had Star Wars stuff
