I am just curious about if the comparison should be really between MP-04 and MP-10. I also own a hasbro MP(01) but with better packing and the trailer, I feel different for a MP-04. With a trailer, it stands along as a very nice piece. It weights in.

I don’t care about the ranking but I just don’t understand why everyone by default ignored MP-04?

    YouTube (Handle):
Thread reminder popped up, so I thought I'd do a quick re-evaluation... Not much has changed, but there are a few differences.

    Aaaaaat 10. MP-27 Ironhide/MP-30 Ratchet

Two of the worst G1 Transformers toys get a much needed upgrade. While still far from perfect, that they're largely animation accurate, particularly when coupled with the Shadow Fisher upgrade kits that remove the unsightly hip kibble. Both figures also include way more accessories than most other MP scaled figures, official or not. I've grouped them together as they're 'mould brothers' and I couldn't decide between them.

    Aaaaaat 9. MP-45 Bumble V2
Given that my entire collection is now fairly slavish to the toon aesthetic, I decided I should probably retire good old MP-21 from this list and replace him with his newer counterpart. I still have major issues with this mould, but there's no denying that it's a much closer match to the animation model than the previous version and it actually looks pretty good from some angles. It's still flimsy, gappy and expensive, but it makes the list.

    Aaaaaat 8. MP-47 Hound
The first new character in my list makes the grade by virtue of looking so much more like the animation model than any 3P alternatives. It's also very well articulated. If only it didn't feel like a cheap children's toy rather than an adult collectable. Honestly, this figure feels extremely lightweight and brittle in hand, which is the main reason it's doesn't feature more prominently. Aesthetically it's great and the engineering and articulation are way ahead of some of the figures ahead of it, but I'm simply afraid to touch it.

    Aaaaaat 7. MP-39 Sunstreaker

I know he's not without his detractors, but I love this take on the character for its animation accuracy (and I don't care about faux chests). I loved the original G1 toy and this MP update looks amazing in both robot and alt modes. Sure, it's a bit kibbly from the back, but it's nowhere near the worst offender and that yellow is so striking and he has great articulation!

    Aaaaaat 6. MP-20+ Wheeljack
It's amazing to me that such a minimalist deco looks this good, but I love the plus version of Wheeljack even more than the original. It's much closer to the animation model and I've always had a soft spot for the G1 toy, as it was one of the last members of the original Autobot line-up I bought (I got a Mexican version of the toy at a local indoor market of all places, which I still have to this day. I'm sure it's toxic!). Articulation is limited by today's standards, but I have a soft spot for Jackie.

    Aaaaaat 5. MP-44 Convoy (Ver. 3)
The highest climber, largely because I've come to terms with his out-of-the-box defects and learned to embrace the good things. Well-documented issues aside, it's an extremely well-articulated figure that nails the animation aesthetic, at least if you look at it from certain angles. It can strike poses than none of the 3P alternatives can match and its rounded contours give it a slight edge aesthetically (maybe not enough to justify the price, but still). While the accessories are also impressive they're still not something I'm all that bothered about and as such go largely unused. I'm looking at it as I type this and it just looks 'heroic'.

    Aaaaaat 4. MP-17+ Prowl/MP-18+ Streak/MP-19+ Smokescreen
Once again I've grouped these moulds together because I love the plus versions, but truthfully if I had to choose just one Bluestreak would win by a country mile. The original G1 toy was the first I ever owned (he's now in two pieces...) and the original deco was the first Datsun MP I bought. The plus deco is so much better it's untrue! It's like a new character, what with the fully painted contrasting colours, expressive face options and blast effects. This is how you breath new life into and old mould! Again, I'll concede that the articulation is outmoded, but I still love it for nostalgic reasons.

    Aaaaaat 3. MP-36 Megatron
I actually prefer the IT-01 version of this figure, but even so it's still a great (if flawed) representation of the Decepticon leader. The transformation is a massive PITA, but he looks great in both modes and has impressive levels of articulation (you can pull off some seriously dynamic poses). The accessories are also more functional than most. It's not completely toon accurate (and mine had some QC issues out of the box, although nothing as serious as MP-44), but it manages to get pretty close considering the engineering required to enable the alt mode. I've added a MoDel upgrade back-plate to mine to hide the kibble, so it's even better!

Aaaaaat At 2. MP-02 Soundwave and Cassettes
The first MP figure I ever owned is still one of the best. Although not as slavishly toonish as most of my collection, it strikes a good balance between real world and animation aesthetics. The Hasbro version has yellow eyes (since replaced with red courtesy of a MoDel upgrade kit) and some slightly different paint apps to the Takara release, but the inclusion of all five of Soundwave's minions far outweighs any such concerns and helps boost its standing. Of the cassettes, Buzzsaw and Laserbeak are my favourites, followed by Frenzy and Rumble, with Ravage bringing up the rear. I will replace with a more toon accurate version when one becomes available, but I'll never part with this figure. It's a testament to how ahead of its time it was that it still blends into a modern collection very comfortably.

And at number 1. MP-29 Laserwave!
I can almost hear the raised eyebrows... MP-29 makes the top spot for a number of reasons. Firstly, he was by far my favourite character in the original run of the Marvel comics and stayed that way until Galvatron and his minions arrived. Two, you couldn't buy the toy in the UK for love nor money. Three, I love the design. When you factor in all of these things it's not hard to see why he's my top pick. I know many think he's too small, but the scale is largely toon accurate and so fits my collection well. The same goes for the colour. I know MP-29+ is a thing, but that's more of a Marvel/toy deco than an animation one. While physically bigger and bulkier, none of the 3P offerings are anywhere near as clean and accurate as the official MP release. I've upgraded mine with the Shadow Fisher head that replaces the light piping with orange, red and yellow LED effects, so he really looks the part now.

    Honorable mentions...

While MP-22 Ultra Magnus looks so much better than the original G1 toy, his impressive size and bulk actually works against him in that he's too big and hence out of scale. That butt flap is also lazy as hell... MP-08 Grimlock is a nice enough mould, but it's just way too small. I have the OS Reximus Prime and I love it, but the official is just puny by comparison. As for MP-25, well Tracks is but nothing special. I like the colour and the alt mode, but the bot mode leaves a fair bit to be desired on account of that backpack and a few QC issues. It's not as bad as some people say though. MP-21 is still a nice figure, but looks dated now.

Anyway, everything else I own is 3P, so that was all I had to choose from when compiling this list.

Ahh I see. I think you nailed it, much fewer people have MP-04 in order to put in in their list. It's not ignored it's just (for some, me included) the trailer is nice to have but not 'essential' when considering which version their favourite MP Prime is. Incidentally MP-04 has been voted for once or twice and when totting up the scores I've usually bundled it in with MP-01 as its essentially the same figure with an extra accessory. It's never been voted for enough to warrant it's own listing/chart anyway.

Thanks for still playing the game, and entering into the spirit with the "Aaaaaat"s. I'll add you scores to my ongoing tally! Interesting to note this is Hound's debut in the MP TOTP!

Sooo... I have a new MP, therefore it's time to take another run at this.

Cue Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"

    Aaaaaat number...

    At 10. MP-46 Black Widow/Blackarachnia
Sadly she's slipped down that chart after debuting at a lukewarm 7. I'm sorry TT but this figure just doesn't cut it. it's not that she's a bad figure, she's not, but she just isn't up to the same high standards as the rest of the Beast Wars Masterpieces, overpriced, bad design, poor tolerances, only one extra face, crap beast mode... disappointing. In the pros column however we have a screen accurate and super articulated robot mode which is bea-ut-iful to look at. The sculpt, the paint, the presence on the shelf are all spot on. So she stays in the chart but just barely.

    At 9. MP-21 Bumblebee and Exo-suit Spike
I've written this one so many times I'm just gonna summarise. Tactile, fun, cute, great alt-mode, great robot mode, beast 'accessory' in all of MP, spectacular value for money.

    At 8. MP-17 Prowl
I've recently had Prowl down of the shelf and been transforming and posing him and do you know what? I had no need for the instruction, no need to look up a how to video on youtube, no head-scratching moments, frustration or accidental damage.... Just plenty of no hassle fun. The alt-mode is beautiful and the robot mode has that balance between toy, toon and looking flipping great that the older MPs have. 7 years young and still going strong.

    At 7. MP-29+ Shockwave
Shockwave is a character I've loved since I was 8 and first encountered him in the pages of the Marvel comics. MP-29+ captures that character almost perfectly in a way MP-29 could not. Sure I'd liked him a bit bigger but there's no disputing that sculpt and transformation. A single eye-watering 70% more expensive than the original but worth it...at leat that what i keep telling myself.

    At 6. MP-41 Dinobot
It was a tough decision to put this guy at number 6 and not 5, and truth be told it might just be the new hotness talking. Despite a few complaints and faulty batteries on my copy I do love this figure. The bare faced ambition and resulting ingenuity required to pull this figure off continues to amaze me! That robot mode, that face sculpt, those teeth... having had him in my collection for two years now it's getting harder and harder to remember what it was like to thing we'd likely never get a proper show accurate Dinobot.

    At 5. MP-50 Tigatron
A new entry! Big cat is here and he is glorious! Tolerance issues aside he's a big hunk of white and teal beautifully sculpted and nicely articulate plastic that really draws the eye among his mostly less strikingly decorated Maximal brothers. Indeed both modes look great, which is no mean feat for a Beast Wars Masterpiece, and are solid and fun to handle. Put a pretty enjoyable transformation and some really cool accessories in top of that and its little wonder he's hitting the chart just shy of the top five.

    At 4. MP-34 Cheetus/Cheetor
I love this guy! So pretty, so posable so 'spot on' 'purrrfect'. I had to buy two so I could display in both simultaneously. Tigatron is grrrreat but little cat is just a 'whisker' ahead in this beauty contest. Super expressive in both modes with all the accessories focused on multi/regular use rather than reenacting one scene from one episode AND a great price point to boot. Was that pun-laden enough?

    At 3. MP-32 Optimus Primal
The first Beast Wars Masterpiece and still one of the best. TT really hit it out of the park on their first attempt. A close to a perfect representation of his in screen self and a joy to behold in person. Exceptional articulation, a tactile and innovative paint job, wrist cannons, prime jets, a simple but effective transformation! Multiple expressive head sculpts in both modes! What's not to like!?

At 2. MP-13 (Hasbro MP-02) Soundwave and Cassetticons

In my humble opinion this is STILL the pinnacle of G1 MP perfection. Soundwave cuts an imposing figure on the shelf and he's a great toy too! Unlike many MPs these days he's robust and durable with lots of play value and non-intrusive gimmicks that make him as pleasing to the in me child as he is to the collector.

And last but most certainly not least... at 1. MP-43 Megatron [Beast Wars]
Unshaken from his top stop the mighty Megatron! Easily one of if not my favourite Transformers characters of all time and my word does this this figure does him justice! The sculpt, paint, detailing, materials, articulation... all perfect. The figure looks looks AMAZING in both modes...even if his t-rex mode could do with a bit more articulation but it doesn't make him any less of an awesome display piece. My only real complaint is the voice chip doesn't contain David Kaye clips.. I know it's a Japanese toy but MP-44 got it for Pete(Cullen)'s sake!

Flogging a dead horse here but update or post your own lists if you fancy.
