    Am I the only one who would love to see Scourge depicted as a hovercraft in fiction? He is basically an evil Seaspray, but because the movie writers depicted him as a space ship not a hovercraft, he became one in all future depictions.

    You may have a point there, but I still can't get over the fact that his face is visible in alt mode.

    If he's disconnected from Unicron, sure. But him being a spaceship makes more sense when Unicron reformats him, an ancient eldritch hovercraft isn't very fearsome.

    It's not really, of course. just another weird thing the animators made up.

    Another weird inconsistency is that the thing on his head maybe a weapon or a rocket booster... A toy makers didn't even seem to know!

    The manual says hover craft. Nothing says that space craft and hovercraft can't be synonymous.

    Well the Dictionary describes a hovercraft as

    “a vehicle or craft that travels over land or water on a cushion of air provided by a downward blast”

    No air in space.....But I can see your point as perhaps he is just a futuristic hovercraft using a different propulsion system

    Yup. Just like the "jettison some weight" issue when it should have been "mass". Or like the packaging of Rumble (the red guy) when in the show the blue guy. I prefer to follow the manual.

    Semantics but as a "spacecraft", they can indeed hover when in a planet with a gravitional system and some liquid bodies making them hovercrafts. (Gawd, gone full nerd no? :lol )

    Same with the seekers, they are called tetrajets yet is their propulsion systems turbine based? Can they actually be called tetra "jets"? Another can of worms.:drunk

    He's a space boat to me like space battleship yamato.

    He commands a fleet of boats just in space because that was a thing back then.

    Actually interesting if you think that the three Decepticons created by Unicron was made to travel on land, sea & air.
    Cyclonus=air (jet obviously)
    Galvatron=land(he has tank treads in his alternate mode)
    Scourge=sea (boat/hovercraft/tub)

    Perhaps he can travel underwater even like a U-boat/submarine,Scourge's thing on his head can be a periscope.

    Now I wish there were depictions of Scourge being enormous enough in altmode to transport many Decepticons in his space boat self. It can't always be Astrotrain lugging everyone around.

    Btw, I really recall correctly but as of now I can't scan it G1 JP toy catalogs. Scourge was also given the UFO designation.

    Ah, G1 Scourge. Beautiful robot mode (in fiction), very cool character, but that altmode…..ugh.

    I honestly never knew what to make of it. A hovercraft the instruction said, but it doesn't really look like one. Plus for such a powerful warrior it's a pretty lousy altmode. It's not a battleship, which would be an impressive altmode with lots of firepower (air, sea and land), but a hovercraft. A spaceship the cartoon said (and the UK comics followed). Well, okay, an alien spaceship could look like this, but it's either meant to be very large or for very short people, because it is very flat. And again, while Cyclonus is sleek and powerful looking, Scourge doesn't seem to have much weaponry or agility.

    It's the kind of altmode that I'm okay with if they alter it.

    When RiD came out and we got that Scourge my immediate thought was: that's the way to do it. Make Cyclonus a jet and thus the new air commander and Scourge a truck and commander of the ground forces (the Decepticons lack a ground (assault) commander, but their ground forces had grown quite a bit at that time). Perhaps merge the two: altmode a truck that transforms into a G1 based robot (the trailer could form the wings).

    But what the G1 is supposed to be...I honestly don't know. A hovercraft I think is a bad choice for the character, but it doesn't look much like a space ship.

    Can't you just call it a space alien hovercraft?

    I find it odd to have him with a sea based alt. mode since his robot mode is very bat-like with those wings. I'm not sure if there's a better water-related animal analogue that his wings could be compared to.

    A submarine would be a very cool way to depict a G1 oriented Scourge.:thumb

    A manta ray?

    I don't see why he can't be a combination spacecraft/hovercraft. Given his function of Tracker, it would be useful.

    He was portrayed as a hovercraft in the Ladybird book, Autobots Strike Oil.
