While I agree. I was thinking they could move up the timeline from 4 million years to like 4 thousand years, but keep the human screen time to a minimum with them only witnessing the Beast Wars from a distance.

You see Mythology is full of shape shifting animals.

I got a book on insect mythology and it gave me some ideas for what Waspinator, Inferno, and Scorponok (not an insect, but the book included a few other creepy crawlies) could do during or after the BW where they get left behind when the Maximals take Megatron back to Cybertron.

The Wasp in some African traditions symbolizes evolution and control over other forms of life.
Order within community. And also evil, but then again he was an Evil Predacons before quitting.
South American Indians the Wasp is a Culture Hero who taught people pottery and house building
Mayan: the wasp was a major figure in the heavens with Venus being called Xux Ek or the "Wasp Star" and seen as a powerful celestial warrior sacrificer.

Now they just need to find a way to develop Waspinator onto this path... maybe he starts playing with clay out of boredom and develops pottery by accident? As for house building well they needed to make a new home after Tigerhawk destroyed their base.

Ant: symbolizes industry, hardworking, organization, community, patriotism, virtue, order, and the tireless servant
...ignoring the pyromania that does sound like Inferno: he's loyal and single-minded in his service to his colony

Again, despite not being insects it includes Scorpions: protector of the living and dead,

Also Scorpius defended the wildlife from Orion who was going to kill every animal on Earth. Mayans associate scorpions with hunting, warfare, and sacrifice (including human blood sacrifices). Also one of their gods takes the form of a Scorpion Man.

Waspinator: Scorponok why are the fleshie-bots doing that?
Scorponok: I tried to teach them about sacrifice! I didn't mean for them to kill each other like that!
Waspinator: Also what'z thiz about a courtzhip dance-
Scorponok: Don't ask. Please just don't.

Also Terrorsaur can be the inspiration for the Thunderbird from Native American legend as well as modern day claims of pteranodon sightings.

Oh and Optimus Primal inspires the myths of Sasquatch.

And obviously Nyx can be Nyx from Greek Mythology.

I wonder will the comics stick to small teams like the show, or will there be new Maximals and Predacons popping up a lot?

Len Wein actually wrote all those people out in Giant Size, not Chris.

For what it's worth, Erik Burnham commented that while they do start off with the familiar set-up of Primal and his crew chasing Megatron's gang after they steal a golden disk and a time machine, things go off in their own direction from there. I'm looking forward to what they've got planned.

Also, after seeing this art Burcham did of Croc Megs, I wouldn't mind seeing the design get reused somehow here.

Being primarily a g1 guy as that was the era I first got into TFs and their comics as a kid in I'd normally wait on any title that was purely another era and only try it if I heard lots of good reviews. I never minded IDW brining in characters from other eras, in fact I was totally in favour of it but the book always had to have G1 at least as a decent percentage of the main characters for me to be interested. I was never aware of beast wars at the time it came out and only vaguely aware and never got into Energon. Since DW and IDW brought TF comics back I have watched and given a chance to every new line/cartoon and enjoyed stuff like prime, animated, cyber verse and even went back and watched BW and thought it was enjoyable. It just didn't have the connection for me G1 did cos it was a part of my childhood. I'll admit the G1 cartoon when watched back as an adult would probably hold no interest for me had I not loved it as a kid, the U.K. Furman comic run though I'll always argue has only rarely been matched for quality and never for as long an uninterrupted run for quality of story. And Geoff Senior is still my all time favourite artist.
But having seen the art I might give this a go blind as I've always liked Josh's art and though he deserved a crack at a book. I think a lot of the reason I like his work is reminds me a lot Senior's style and always thought (though could be wrong) his style was inspired by senior with a bit of animated, nick Roche and Alex Milne all mixed in. So yeah despite usually needing my g1 but not being G1 only his art will make me give this a go from the start when I normally wouldn't without hearing good feedback down the road. So don't get people not digging the art. Guess that's the thing about art, though - it's subjective and a matter of taste. Same as food and the reason I don't think anyone can be more qualified than others to be an art critic. Whether films, art or music these types annoy me as they can never not let their personal taste get in the way of their appraisal.

I think one issue this comic will have is that there is a 'definitive' or at the very least very established Beast Wars take. G1 had the cartoon and comics being their own thing, then Japanese G1 doing its own thing too in anime and manga while Beast Wars was always centered around a singular continuity and series of event which told a rather character-heavy story by Transformers standards rather than the sprawling ensemble cast the franchise was known for an still is known for today. This alone is going to make any new take on Beast Wars harder than just redoing G1 again because the character writing was already pretty damn good and iconic the first time around.

I was specifically refering to the opening pages of X-Men #94, not Giant-Size, when in the aftermath of Giant Size #1, the pre-Giantsize group decide to leave the mansion.

Well, I'm happy to give this a whirl. I think Josh is a great guy, and his art is its own thing - whether it works or not will come down to the way the panels flow, for me.

Nothing else gives me strong vibes one way or the other. IDW have been a bit hit or miss, in general (though whenever I give them credit for anything I'm told that's because I'm a 'fanboy'). Beast Wars has never been my bag, but was a decent enough show. Creator OCs can be great additions to the franchise or forgettable. I'll wait and see.

Damn, make this a separate character or a clone of Megs so this design doesn’t go to waste.

Do something like Nyx and base a new character on the Croc mold. Just needs a new head and a fresh coat of paint to work.

Wow, all this back & forth is not making me regret bailing on the IDWverse years ago. All of that sounds terrible & exactly why I stopped reading the books.

That being said I have high hopes for the new BW series & look forward to it!

P.S.: Off topic but how is the new IDW TF? Is it worth checking out?

To each their own. I thought it was brilliant. Watching the Lost Light confront some of the greatest mythical heroes in Cybertronian history, only to realize that all of them were basically just regular joes (like the LL crew themselves) just dealing with what was put in front of them every day.

That said, I really don't envy the creative team of this new BW book. They are running the gauntlet between the "Gimme my nostalgia, not new stuff" fans and the "So tired of what came before, this is boring and where is my NEW!!" fans. That's a tough needle to try and thread for any property (See Star Wars, Star Trek, et all), but particularly for a property as beloved by it's fan base, and reviled by it's detractors as BW. Regardless of their approach and even the ultimate quality of what they put out for good or ill, it's going to take some series brass ones just to ride the waves between the various factions of the TF community.

Only if you read the first six issues of Galaxies and then go directly to #23 of the main series.

I say we should get the thread back on topic to the actual comic or wait till we get more information about it if there's nothing more to be said.

All I'll say is that seeing on how every single new character ever introduced into Transformers, whether by a new toy like the Beast Wars cast or created by the author like Rung or Impactor, is an OC, I’m going to reserve judgement on if I like the new character or if they should have used a pre-existing character until the book actually comes out, and not immediately say it’s bad just from a few images.

I just hope any new BW characters we get have actual toys this time. Sooo many new characters are created and have no toys. How long did we wait for a Straxus or Scrounge figure? Even then, the Straxus one was way undersized...

I’m on the fence with this one (mainly because of the style), I’m struggling to enjoy the characters looking like this. However I will give it a read as I’m not going to turn my nose up to something because of one gripe. I’m hoping all the show characters turn up in some way as that would be strange not seeing certain bots and then seeing new characters that were never in the og show? It has me baffled as to what’s going on, when it takes place and if these are the same characters from the show or do we have a multiverse of beast wars characters? All I can say now is I need to know more about this....

also is this just a cover? They look a lot like the kingdom figures and man if the comic took this approach I’d be drooling all over the place :D

I hope we get a new crocodile character to go with our new bat character.

any other animals you want to see them do?

I’d like to see a coyote, a raven, a thorny devil, and a sea turtle.

Just realized looking at the preview page, Earth has two moons. Hopefully this series does something more with the Vok if that means they'll bring them in.

I would be over the wall if they actually introduced mythological creatures in the series later on as either new characters or heck even be new forms for classic BW characters. I know we technically got BW Megatron as a dragon in season 3 but still if we get more it'd be a great way to shake things up.
