What if the Transformers are just really bad at picking disguises... Like they went though movies and tv shows to pick their vehicle forms. So Ectotron and Gigawatt wouldn't really be crossover characters, cause Ghostbusters and Back to the Future would still be fiction in this universe... they're just poorly disguised Transformers who watched those movies and thought those were totally acceptable alt modes to have.

I'm just imagining a new universe where Cybertronians are idiots who choose fictional vehicles to transform into thinking no one would think that was odd. Obviously this fiction would be more of a comedy than other Transformers properties but what do you think? We need to get more crossovers to properly fill out a cast but I just really like the idea that rather than Ghost Busters, Back to the Future, Star Trek, Transformers all being in the same universe that the Transformers are just really terrible at picking disguises and all transform into things that don't actually exist.

I mean technically they are "real" vehicles in the context of someone customized a vehicle to look like that for a movie but it's not real in the sense of something that actually functions the same way it does in the movie. Besides of the obvious fact of time machines aren't real and flying cars still don't exist, it's also impossible to get to 88 mph in that car. They even made a fake speedometer for the movie to make it look faster than it actually is.

So would anyone else like to see a series where the Transformers are just really bad at picking disguises? Call it "Transformers Robots NOT in Disguise"

I'm very sure that G1 Cosmos was the earliest example of picking the worst alternate mode for disguise. I know it's supposed to be a UFO but it also looks like a doorknob, one of those bells you see in hotels(just with fancy colors) or a sombrero.

What's interesting is how do we place crossover guys from Star Wars and Marvel toyline into the story? Maybe the Tie fighter Darth Vader is actually a cybertronian that fashioned his robot mode to look like Darth Vader after watching A New Hope...

Star Wars I think would be easy but Marvel... most of those vehicles don't even exist in the fiction either... they just picked random vehicles for the characters to transform into... It makes no sense.

Well you can say they colored their vehicle mode to look like the characters, although the only one that I really like is their crossover Venom toy.

I think the reason that one works is it just looks like the Symbiote covered an actual Transformer.

Do we even know where Cosmos officially got his alt mode from? If it's from an old sci-fi movie in universe then yes, if that's suppose to be a Cybertronian vehicle or he scanned an alien ship that actually exists in universe then no.

And while I don't think we've ever seen exactly how Cosmos got that alt mode there is some evidence to suggest it's a vehicle that actually exists in universe. G1 Cosmos is friends with an alien race who also look like they're from an old Sci-Fi movie and he could of picked up the alt mode from them. Cyberverse Cosmos was part of a Cybertronian "Alien Hunt" TV series and we also know the Grey aliens exist in this universe who may very well have such space ships and may have encounted Cosmos while she was filming for Alien Hunt.

Rescue Bots have also shown the same type of alien ship, which was not Cosmos but looks exactly like the same vehicle...

Granted these examples all come from different continuities and the same rules may not apply, take it with a grain of salt... but Point is Cosmos would only count if we can confirm that his alt mode came from a movie in universe. Of course in real life that's always going to be the case anyway because we know what the flying saucer is based on, but what's real or fiction in the context of their universe is what matters not ours.
