I have no doubt that if it's not included in the base release, it'll be sold as an add-on like BW Optimus' banana crate or as a plus version. That said, at 250+ dollars, it is a glaring omission for me too. And it still looks like he has nuts in his cheeks in all his alternate faces.   Going to wait on reviewers for this one.

 

The more teeth, the thinner they are, the weaker they are. These ratchet teeth are not used as gears - they are deliberately rubbed over each other. Thinner pointier teeth will wear quicker. Anyway I was just being a facetious jerk (as per all my posts in recent days as I'm offshore going insane) - I don't really think it will be a problem. I hate Shockwave's super coarse 3 click per 90 degree arm ratchets, so I'm glad to see finer teeth here (even if they will grind to paste quicker).

 

Ratchets work quite similar to other sliding mechanisms, there is wear present, but then the teeth get "polished" as they begin to wear out, therefore reducing the amount of wear overtime due to the teeth surface offering less resistance to the sliding process.

And assuming the plastic they use on the joints is of engineering grade, they should last for a very long time. And if wear is still a concern to you, you can apply a bit of lube to further extend the service life of the joints.

The analogy with the gears is that the force is distributed in a greater number of teeth, reducing stress on the material which also happens with "toothed plate" type ratchets.
