If you're buying figures based off of a cartoon why would it be bad for them to try and be as toon accurate as possible, I dont really get that. 3P and mainline have all their own stylized stuff to buy instead

Is it people who preferred the original toys or something, I wonder would people say its bad if MP started toon accurate rather than better toy versions

No hate tho, I loved MP bc my dad bought the 20th anniversary MP01 then this year I bought him a G1 prime he wanted as a kid and a hasbro MP10

Because they weren't originally toys based off a cartoon. They were toys based off the idealized version of characters that were both toys and cartoon characters.

Man, that reflection really hits home.

Ratchet was my first Autobot car back in 1984. My brother ended up with Ironhide. Still, we were fortunate enough to each have a minibot in Windcharger and Brawn respectively, so it wasn't all bad.

Missed out on the initial AJP pre-order window during lunch today; hopefully they'll get it going again around Japan midnight time but as long as it goes live once more, I'm good.

And as far as these things go, this was the most optimal way to break these things down.

The Japanese high-end collectible market is heavily invested in the retro stylings as it is. Look how many high-end renditions of Mazinger or Getter Robo they pump out every couple of years. And the high price ceiling means they've got the size and budget to work with to make "anime magic" a reality, doing the things we all though would be impossible ~30 years ago, and actually make toys that look exactly like they stepped out of the animation.

The more "broadly appealing", higher-detailed figures get put in the mainline instead, at more palatable prices for world-wide consumption, where that slavish accuracy is less of a selling point.

Complaining about the direction of the Masterpiece of this point is passe. They've found their niche, and judging by how pushed and generally successful the line seems to have become after that update, I think they've been successful with that. Criticizing that they should do anything but ignores the realities that lead the developers in this direction. Who do you think you are? Frank Sinatra?

G1 MPs have been cartoon-based for 4 years—The last 11 new G1 MPs have followed that aesthetic.

    Move on already*.

    :deadhorse:

*Meaning the discussion of this topic is moot, not to move on from the cartoon aesthetic. Which I happen to love.

Jfc! I just woke up and the first batch of Amazon preorders is already sold out? This is gonna be a mad popular MP. @Gamerlingual, not sure if this is gonna go the way if MP Lio Convoy et al.

The additional images are dope and as expected he looks great with the shoulder intakes swiveled forward.

It's amazing how these images actually look like Hasbro CGI stock images. TT truly are the masters of paint texture.

They did such an amazing job with Tigatron as well.

Nope. Sticking with Maketoys this time. This looks good, but no where near $260+ good for me.

This is tangentially topical: Did anyone see what happened to the BBTS preorder of this? They had a "coming soon" page and said it would go live today. I watched it for Ss and Gs and during the morning it went 404. Then it disappeared. I tried checking their stock while omitting their hide sold out rules and also didn't see it there. It's like it never existed.

As long as they use the same plastic used in Tigatron, I am in.

Wish we could get an MP that rolled on its wheels, without scraping all the bottom kibble.

Am I crazy for not being blown away by this figure..? I mean, the paint is nice, and he does look more cartoon-accurate.. But for $250..? Really..? I don't have a group of Seekers to call my own yet, but when I do get some, they won't be costing that much, that's for sure.

The plastic feels good in hand, unlike Hound or even Blackarachnia.
