Parents and most people in general don't understand or appreciate the engineering/technical marvels that go into modern toys let alone a transformer. I had a normal life and was able to collect, never becomes a conversation anymore as long as I can support myself. I heard the "grow up" thing back in highschool but when you're an adult and are making it on your own you can do whatever you please.

P.S the whole girls thing and collecting is a turn off is utter BS don't listen to anyone in that regard, I dated well enough and have a supporting SO that enjoys my hobby. It never interfered or bothered anyone even before that.

My mom recently texted me: (picture of boxed g1 thundercracker) Transformer with original box esp one above would value thousands of dollars today.

As a teen, my dad would ask me “when are you going to stop buying toys?”. Now, my parents just don’t mention them, even if they’re displayed prominently at the entrance to my house.

My mom is a doll maker, so her love of toys is deeply ingrained into me, and has passed onto my kids, but my dad was always so ready to sell things off at yard sales.

My in-laws are supportive though and always bought me gift cards or gave me cash for birthdays and holidays to buy what I wanted.

    my mom calls them "monsters"
i remember one year she was out Christmas shopping, she called to ask me if i had "skywrap", referring to combiner wars skywarp.

my grandmother calls them "space men"
and she has dubbed my collection as "the 10,000 dollar collection"

my brother calls them "toy soldiers", which comes from the old computer animated movie. he jokes about them coming alive and battling each other at night while im asleep.

Mom would always say, "if you say so," when I would show her one with a Cybertronian alt-mode. One of the last ones I got to show her was the new Tentakil. I told her it was a squid and she said, "doesn't look like any squid I've ever seen."

That's what I'm waiting for. In college, there's bound to be someone who shares or is at least supportive of my interests relationship wise.

My mum used to think the theme tune went "Robots in the skies" instead of in disguise.

I was showing my wife potp metalhawk (she loves my collection) and when I opened the shell to show her the robot inside, she went "Aaaaahhhhhh!! He's pregnant!"

When I first started getting into collecting, neither of my parents said much about it. I could tell my mom wasn't thrilled with it, but she never told me to stop.

Nowadays, my mom still don't really bring it up, but I think she gained a new appreciation for my hobby after she dated someone who collected toys himself (GI Joes, if anyone's curious).

Additionally, nowadays, my dad and I bond over it every so often. We've watched most of the live-action movies together (it was just kinda a thing we did to bond after I moved out of the house, but we haven't done it since AoE), and he's taken up buying drones, so we occasionally nerd out at each other over our respective toys. Also helps that he was the one who instilled a love of robots into me at a young age.

What makes me angry about my parents and grandmother is that they'll happily get my younger brother and sister stuff that they want, even if it's more than $100.
But the minute I spend any amount on TFs, even just buying a deluxe, they get on my ass.

    I hate it.

My grandma won't even be giving me gift cards for my birthday or Christmas anymore because of it.

My grandmother was always pretty cool about it but my dad used to give me grief about it all the time. But around 10 years ago my dad had some medical and repair bills come up due and I ended up selling a few of my more valuable TFs and took care of it. He was so surprised (and thankful) that I did that and as a result, he doesn't give me a hard time about it anymore.

My dad (after he once tried to transform one of my toys): I think it broke.

    My mom: *shudders with disapproval*

My girlfriend: Can I borrow _____ for a bit? (the blank meaning any TF that I have)

I moved out 30 years ago, but my folks did see my toy room when we moved into this new house and they were impressed by the setup and effort of my collection.

My ex wife was a total rag and never supported me collecting, she always told me I had to get a "real adult hobby", while I was the one supporting the family and paying all the bills working multiple jobs because she was a lazy, worthless human being.

But my new GF loves my collection, and is incredibly supportive and interested in every new piece I get.

Mom always just smiled supportively and was happy for me. Dad doesn’t really react much one way or the other. Ya gotta have some kind of monkey to feed!

My dad actually got me into Transformers by showing me the original series when I was young. He also seems kind of interested whenever I tell him about new figures. Not really sure about what my mom thinks of it though.
