Fifty bucks for that? Order canceled!

I love the F-14 Tomcat as a jet, and Goose gets a shoutout on the cockpit pilot/RIO names which is great because who remembers Merlin? I like the Gerwalk mode, but that's not the point of this thing. The weathering is odd, the plastic is semi-translucent, the helmet head was always a tough pill to swallow, those hollow thighs are unacceptable.

It just doesn't make enough sense for $50 for my collection. At $40 maybe, this looks like a voyager-class in terms of size and parts count so you have the exclusivity and licensing charge, but it doesn't thrill me the way Ectotron did and that was way bigger while being $10 less.

I wonder what the underside of the jet mode looks like.

It's not, but the win is you don't have to buy it, nothing is lost by it being made, and people who do like it can buy one.

These pictures make him seem even more like Cybertron Thundercracker (I have the redeco as Movieverse Dive-bomb, which shares some of the off-white plastic with certain parts needed for transformation.)

 

I've been craving an F-14 Transformer for the longest but this ain't it chief.

Hasbro wants $50 for a paint less ,Dollar Tree non-denominational holiday gift toy? Pfffft as if.

 

Pretty soon we\'re gonna get a Pretty In Pink Molly Ringwold/Arcee figure or a Goonies Sloth-bot.  Hasbro needs to reign in the 80\'s movie tie in bots.  This is not a good looking figure.  

 

The funny thing is of all the crossover figures, I think it has the best head sculpt, but the rest if so plain (pardon the pun). It needs some repro labels or something. The head doesn\'t match the body.

 

Id buy a pirate version of the slothbot.

 

the jet mode looks pretty good to me. I do agree that the robot mode looks too Anorexic. I think they should’ve went with TFC’s Lion Kaiser F-14. The biggest thing about the actual top gun mold that I do like is that the cockpit canopy is in the front

 

Ditto most of the recent responses. If it goes on clearance I’ll consider but as much as I love everything 80s, this doesn’t work for me (can’t wait for Gigawatt though!)

 

I mean, they can't really "use" TFC designs. Maybe Classics Jetfire.

Although the Siege Seeker mold uses actual cockpit canopies.

I think a part of what feels "off" is that Ectotron and Gigawatt have a neo-G1 vibe that blends into CHUG. Whereas I feel like this Maverick figure WANTS to be a Knightverse/Bumblebee movie design but doesn't have a professional Hollywood concept artist behind it and so it looks like a filler character in a Bumblebee movie toyline.

 

As I never even once considered getting this, I'm also pulling this outta the air with no proof whatsover but is it possible either Hb was NOT willing to invest too much in the mold or were probably avoiding any future clustrfk with Harmony Gold?

If given the Takara bling treatment, would it have it helped improved this?

The fig also gives me the G2 Cyberjet feel. Maybe it could be repurposed the G2 Jetfire?

 

So in human terms, can't put a lipstick on a pig?
