Cyclonus is similar to the old Universe in a number if ways, but the biggest difference is in the shoulders, as far as I can tell.

The legs of the Kingdom release look to use the now common "open up back of leg and extend" rather than the Universe version, as the newer Starscream does.

But the head is stored in the chest cavity in jet mode, instead of being exposed on the nosecone. The nosecone looks to collapse, and then rotate into the chest cavity, exchanging places with the head. You can see where both the front and back if the chest have panels that swing open (pinned near the waist) for that.

Rather than just swinging up and into place, as the Universe shoulders do, Kingdom Cyclonus' are attached to the cockpit section (you can clearly see the hinges they use to move). They will left towards the top of the jet mode, then the entire cockpit section rotates 180, so it faces the reverse direction from jet mode.

The end result is really similar, just some of the soecifics change. Earthrise Screamer actually does look to be a pretty solid analogy, all around.

I'm sorry, this is going nowhere, but I just thought of a lavender / purple colored banana flying through space and getting beaten up by Galvatron and it’s quite hilarious.

 

Glad the joke worked then. They're all of the above really. Cyclonus even has a curved look to his face from some angles.

Personally, I wouldn't expect any characters/figures getting released in WFC to also see a SS86 release. Case in point, dead Prime. He would be a perfect candidate for SS86 but they opted to release him as a standalone WFC exclusive.

Part of the problem with Cyclonus face is his chin is a bit to wide and no goatee. Also doesn't help his flesh color isn't silver but a lilac-white. Guess that's why this is Kingdom and not SS

 

I mean, it comes down to incessant nitpicking at this point. Cyclonus is the most accurate he's ever been, but people are saying the entire toy is shit because the face is slightly off.

Like I'm all for opinions and God knows there's plenty of Hasbro figs I've hated recently, (most of Earthrise, actually) but it just seems silly to turn down such a quality figure that's this accurate because his chin is a micrometer too wide or his lips are slightly to pronounced or whatever's being harped on, I'm not even sure. Like really? Are we that fucking picky and petty?

Five years ago we'd have shit ourselves for a Cyclonus this excellent, face an all.

Totally nitpicky. It's not like the face isn't one of the default things to look at for many people or anything like that.

 

Just comes down to how much you value accuracy. For me "it's accurate" is an explanation, never a defense.

 

Incessant nitpicking is the right of every senti...er, Transformers fan.

 

I have Grapple, who was a massive disappointment in how cheaply made he was, and Starscream who's good. I plan to get the Seeker 2 pack, Sky-lynx and Scorponok. Otherwise that's it. I'm hemming and hawing over getting Snapdragon because I have Apeface, but honestly Earthrise is just super unappealing.

But isn't that backwards from what's being discussed? Aren't people claiming the face isn't accurate, and that it's a problem because of that?

Also, accuracy is valued a lot by Transformers fans, I feel like that's widely understood. But okay, even ignoring accuracy, this Cyclonus is clean, lean, has zero kibble besides his wings. He has a gorgeous alt mode that's sleek and full unlike the gappy atrocity that was the Universe one. Even not comparing it to the animation model, it's an incredible figure that's clearly well-made, and only gets better once you compare it to the animation model.

 

Agreed. This is the definitive Cyclonus.

 

From the moment the first official images of Cyclonus' alt-mode were released, I knew there was something uncanny about how much more proportionate and sleek it appeared, but I assumed (for some bizarre reason) it was an optical illusion due to those initial leaked prototype images being unpainted, rather than the significantly more likely possibility that the leaker simply mistransformed the figure. Doh!



It's patently obvious from the above comparison that there is an entire section of the nose that is undeployed in the image on the right!

Cyclonus has, along with the Decepticon Targetmasters, one of my favourite Cybertronian jet designs in the history of the franchise. Now that we've finally seen the official transformation, that alt-mode design - the proportions, the lines - absolutely sings; everything in perfect harmony.
