That is straight up overkill @ $550. The most I've ever donated (only this one time) on a streamer was probably $30 as he was my friends cousin so I went to check it out and it was like only 10ppl watching and boring as hell lol. I felt bad for the kid/streamer so I gave him $30 and I can tell he was thrilled/Shocked someone gave him money lol. Still to this day he doesn't know it was me and if anyone's wondering he never made it big and got a real job and is doing good;)

Part of me wants to side with a board member wholesale, no matter what. Part of me can't reconcile certain aspects and operates under the assumption that I don't know all the facts. What I DO know is that posts like this make me question even further...

I've given about $10 to the only streamer I watch much of, over the course of 8 months. Hundreds of dollars is crazy, especially if you aren't especially well off

It seems almost cult like to me. Wouldn't take much to turn from Kim "famous for being famous" Kardashian to Jim "drink the Kool-Aid" Jones.

I've read articles where dudes have given thousands. Some dude emptied out his life savings. Well...I'd rather spend money on other things. More tangible things...

So I started to take new medication in the form of an injection given to me every 4 weeks to handle my mental health. The first 2 shots actually made me feel different. The voices calmed down tremendously. I started to cry because felt liberated after 19 years. I got my 3rd shot yesterday and my mom said not to take them because it goes against HER believes and I just lost it and yelled it was her damn fault that I even have mental health issues.

She left my dad for a cocaine user, expected me to call this jerkoff dad and that bastard said if I don't call him dad he would kick my motherf***ing ass. I told my dad what they told me and he went to get a machete and was about to go to my mom's house to kill the f***er. Thank goodness he calmed down.

Now she is telling me I have to sell off EVERYTHING I have, my computer, my video games, my toys, my bed, my refrigerator, my stove, my clothes if I want to stay at her house after my dad dies, which she hopes is soon, I lost control and grabbed her by the back of her neck, kicked open my front door and throw her out yelling you stupid bitch! I hate you! Dad has always been there for me for everything! Not just material possessions but for food, clothes, a roof over my head, you gave me shit, only clothes you like as if I don't have the right to choose my clothing, not 1 fucking toy, not even a fucking donut! I hope dad lives forever because I will never live with you! I rather die and dance on your grave!

I shut the front door and my dad was worried that she was gonna call the police on me. I locked myself in my room and was in Hulk-level rage just harming myself by punching the floor until my hands bled and punching my head. Mostly my jaw, side temples and almost the base of my skull.

I feel like I'll never find any peace in my life. I'll have to talk to my doctor on Monday. If I can even make it to that day.

Except that your words don't match your actions, and she is noticing that. If things were really 'not okay' you'd get out and take her with you. But by staying you make it okay that she and you are treated like that, and that's the lesson she's ACTUALLY learning. Abuse will become her 'normal', her definition of 'love', like it does with every abuse victim, and she will seek that out later in life because nice, good relationships will feel weird to her. Doesn't even have to be physical abuse - mental and emotional are just as damaging, especially to a child.

I wish I wasn't across the country so I could help you out with a place to stay or help finding a women's shelter or something...I'm sorry I can't help much other than words. :(

You're stronger than you know. You can do this. You need to do this. For her.

YES! THAT is what you needed to do! The bolder part at least. You FINALLY told her what you thought and how you truly felt! THAT is what she needed to hear from you! I don’t know if it will make a difference, but you FINALLY did what you needed to do.

That said, I hate you went and hurt yourself out of anger, rage, grief, and frustration, but I guess you needed to do it for a reason.

I'm really curious to hear what you think an "honest job" is. Because I'm betting my job, that pays me very well, wouldn't fit your criteria. Because my job doesn't provide any goods or services to my city/state/country. My job makes roofs, but only for rich people.

I think you'd be surprised to learn how many popular streamers these days already have part/full time jobs, and just stream in their free time. And even if streaming was their full time job, how is it not an honest job? If it pays their bills and their taxes, then what's the harm?

Gonna go out on a limb and assume that the inference was that an entire generation or two would attempt to pursue their income through those platforms, while failing to realize that without income generated from consumable goods there would be no money to pay streamers.

She's got him obsessed with her. She sends him "gifts" but it the same gifts posted on her site that all "supporters" get and when they come I'm like "what is this?" And he was like "she sends me things because I'm a mod on her stream" and I've been asking for months "you aren't giving her money, right?" and he goes "no, I just help her out". He lied so fucking easily this whole time, like it's definitely some kind of psychopathy. I'm afraid that he can't tell that he's being used by her because he doesn't seem right in the head. I mentioned we never talked much, so I really don't know him. Asking him about the boxes in the mail was the longest discussion we've had in a long time. I knew for a while he was a psychopath, but since it didn't seem to make a difference in my daily life I didn't think anything of it, now he can't tell right or wrong with money! That's too much.

And before anyone judges me, read up on psychopathy, it's not as scary as the movies make it. [sociopaths are the scary ones]

There has to be some kind of psychological explanation for this phenomenon. I simply cannot imagine being that devoted, almost to a religious degree to someone they’ve probably never met in person. Same thing with stan accounts on Twitter and politicians.

    Spittin’ facts!

Gonna have to disagree with this. IMO being a streamer is just as much of an “honest job” as working a 9-to-5 desk job or flipping burgers at McDonalds. You can dislike the profession, but it’s still a perfectly legal method to making money.

Wait just one goddamn second here - are some people implying that there are women... on the internet... who exploit themselves AND financially benefit from the free handouts given to them from men??? Dumb/weak/desperate/lonely/creepy/pathetic men... just giving away money and gifts to ladies for no other reason than they exist??

Well, that just can't be true. And if it is, it's an entirely new thing that history has no record of that should be headline news. Because holy cow that would be NUTS... men paying woman for acknowledgement. Crazy.

That's hard enough to process, but I swear my head will literally explode if anyone is also suggesting that there's now an entire generation of entitled internet-addicted space wasters that strive for financial freedom and the saddest version of 'fame' by doing nothing except making useless videos on YouTube that even more useless sycophants watch & endorse. That just can't be a real thing. No way. Pfft, what's next? Someone gonna tell me that there are people who do bedroom things in front of cameras and make money from it?? Haha yeeeeah right. You turkeys.

The place and people I love are under attack right now. I have friends and their relatives who are serving in the Armenian military. All I can do now is pray for them and that the situation doesn't escalate...

You could make the same claim that offshoring jobs that pay anything erodes support for the high prices of a consumer economy. In that light, these streamers are basically saying "I learned it from _you_, Mom/Dad."

I don't think anyone would judge you here....judge your husband maybe. But not you.

I think this phenomenon is more prevalent on Twitch and other social media platforms as opposed to YouTube. At least that's what I've read.

Oh and you forgot to use blue text :p  Or whatever the hell color it's supposed to be now to represent sarcasm.
