I have a system for that. I always transformer my figures blind the first time, but I'm always delicate with it. If I feel like I think I'm doing the right thing bit I need a lot of force, that's the only time I check the instructions to make sure I'm doing it right. Haven't broken a figure this way yet.

Still, I had a good guffaw when the guy transforming him popped the tiger head's forehead section up and its expression went from "cunning predator" to "when the Carolina reaper\habanero combo kicks in". Mine also says 29th, but that's based on Japan's timezone, so a bunch of us will actually get this guy Monday.
That Chosen Prime video is really not very good. It doesn't even seem like he transformed it...if he had and he was actually familiar with Cheetor's transformation he wouldn't lead off by saying the transformations are "basically the same." I would consider it a complete re-do, as it sounds like you would as well.
That beast head looks like it's judging you... It's nice that the eyes are posable even if he looks very surprised when his scalp is open. Not surprising since, y'know, his scalp is open.
