Jackson can still do Fury. Even in the MCU Fury was barely in the action. He mostly stands around and gives advice or has some cool speech.

What the hell? What's the budget for these shows? You know the reason he was only a guest in a couple episodes of Agents of SHEILD is because of how much it costs to have him on screen right?

There was talks for a Nick Fury solo film years back that never happened... I wander if they're taking any ideas from that to put into this?

It's also possible that Samuel L. Jackson won't actually be in the series much if at all... like they could CGI a de-aged face onto a younger actor... not sure how much that would cost... or maybe still... a younger actor who kinda looks like a younger version of him and he's only in a couple episodes. They probably won't advertise how little he's actually in the series similar to the trick Prime pulled with Dwayne Johnson, advertising him as a major character when he's only in there for like five minutes and has like 2 lines.

Is this confirmed, or more of a rumor?

If true, I'm hyped. It would actually be the first Disney Plus Marvel show I'm actively excited for. Nick Fury is among my favorite MCU characters. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's underused...he's had a big presence and role in these movies. But it would be great to finally see him get his own story. Somehow the character never gets old.

Considering this comes from Variety, I’d say it’s legit.

The Disney+ shows are gonna have the budgets of a standalone MCU film about 100-150 Million dollars. So they'll be able to afford to pay to the film actors to star in their own shows or have more of a recurring role in someone else's series.

If AOS had been a Disney+ series, then you can be assured we would've seen Nick Fury alot more often since they would've been able to afford him

These shows are actually part of the MCU proper and not just more or less a spinoff from it, so they have larger budgets.

I hope they bring in the Unseen and the OG Nicholas Joseph Fury.

Regarding the former, that dude is a Watcher and that race got an appearance in GOTG 2 but that doesn't really mean anything.

Regarding the latter... the original Fury is the black one in the MCU. There's no changing or retconning that.

You'd think Disney+ would get one of these dozens of shows they have in development to the service before they start announcing more.

Its like they are competing with Sony for the most amount of announced projects in development.

Well they can take the comic route by having him as a son of the original Nick Fury. Being a black guy, I love Samuel, but I grew up with the OG Fury, and want to see him.

I guess the story order of the Marvel family and Skrulls goes something like this:

Captain Marvel - Carol Danvers returns to Earth after the Snap in 2018
Avengers: Endgame - Carol Danvers helps defeat Thanos at the Blip in 2023
WandaVision - Monica Rambeau resumes her life weeks after the Blip in 2023
Spider-Man: Far From Home - months after the Blip, Talos and Soren contact Nick Fury in 2024

Ms. Marvel - Kamala Khan probably gets her start
Captain Marvel 2 - Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau probably join up with Carol Danvers
Secret Invasion - Nick Fury fights hostile Skrulls
