Me too, but you know people won’t listen to reason like that and will start screaming about there being a deluxe Rattrap, despite us knowing every deluxe in the line just about.

Hate the Jurassic Park T-Rex head. Hate it. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, every other Kingdom figure has had a more real-world accurate head sculpt. Suppose I'll look into what the 3P masterpiece version costs. Might still buy.

Yeah, pretty sure that was a bad copy/paste job on a canned class descriptor.

Considering BW Megatron is held by the official Hall of Fame as a 'distinct character' whereas other Megatrons are lumped in with G1, he's certainly earned the honor of retaining that Megatron name even if in-story he was a pretender who took up the name.

In story he was actually the first Megatron via series finale retcon. He took his name from the covenant of Primus (which in universe predates the Great War) thinking it was referring to the decepticon Megatron when in reality the covenant was detailing the beast wars. Predacon Megatron named himself after himself.

Yeah, modernization can be done well and I can get behind a good, serious take on old camp, but it's not like modern TFs have been all srs bzns and no goofiness. I mean, Wildwheel is a friggin' robot cowboy with a robot cowboy hat and a robot poncho. And he's awesome.

    Yes, please!

To a Western geewunner, realizing G1 goes beyond season 4 was the most shocking day of their life. To a Japanese fan, it was Tuesday.

The Beast Machines Titan slot is obviously still reserved for Supreme Cheetor 2.0: Electric Redemption Boogaloo.

Also, Bob Budiansky of Marvel Comics named and wrote the profiles for almost every single G1 character and the series (marvel and Sunbow) bible (yes, Rumble is red for those that don’t know).

Beast Wars referenced bits of both. They did skew a bit more toward the cartoon (Starscream being a ghost and being killed by Galvatron in the movie, as well as Vector Sigma, the plasma energy chamber, and the “strain of hate plague” in Beast Machines.

The name “The Ark” is from the comics (pretty sure it’s not in the series bible) as is references to Primus.

But it’s totally safe to say it’s an amalgam of both. I recall the Vok were going to be revealed as the Swarm from the G2 comics, but it never transpired.

Tbh I see that as the conceptual ancestor to how modern Megatrons take their names from a mythical figure called 'Megatronus'. Its clearly the same concept, that the name is apocryphal to their species mythology and that the 'main' Megatron took his name from a previous being.

Beast Wars is a time travel story so things were bound to get weird.

Yeah, Transformers continuity is is kind of unique in that it's pieced together from so many different, often contradictory things, and rooted in the age of "toys first, fiction exists to sell toys" in the 80s. So there are certain things that are consistent which it continues to self-reference, but even those rely on us just sort of going, "Eh, okay it doesn't make sense but, we just accept it." Lol. E.g. the differences between Western and Japanese G1 continuity, the differences between the comics and everything else, the way entirely new continuities come into existence that are still very much inspired by and self-referential to the G1 stuff, etc. etc.

So it's weird, because, truthfully, most of what I love about it is this incredibly vague thing at the end of the day lol. It's Budiansky's characterizations, Sunbow's animations, a general feeling of nostalgia for the toys forged across a handful of birthdays and Christmas mornings in the early 80s, and various comic continuities I only fleetingly encountered over the years.

All of those things are all incredibly inconsistent and protean. And yet, they still evoked enough fondness and power for me that when Beast Wars revealed that they were actually on Earth of the past, and that that Earth was the same one the Autobots crashed on in the 80s, and that Starscream's ghost was still kicking around, etc. I became elated. I already loved Beast Wars, but as a U.S. G1 fan who grew up always wondering, "What happened after the cartoon?" and had been reliant on head canon to answer that, seeing some sort - any sort - of continuation was just awesome at the time lol.

It cemented my love for BW/BM in a way that went beyond what was already an avid fandom for it. So for me the idea of BW showing up in an otherwise G1-ish line, even though it has its own continuity and fiction attached, makes total sense. Just like Cyberverse having BW characters kicking around in it even though it too is a reimagining.

I'd say it's more than slightly better. Most Hot Rods have been pretty crap, really. Every "okay" one instantly became dated when the next one came along and showed we were settling for mediocre out of desperation. But there's no pretending or justification with the SS86 figure, it is visibly a quantum leap. At least, that's my view.

Though I agree with the rehash point. If they're great figures, wonderful, but the same characters over and over has gotten stale. 35th anniversary figures are fine, especially if they're this good, but it's time for something that hasn't been done to death, like with Kingdom's Beast Wars. Maybe after, we can even get some Armada? Hah, just kidding.

    ...unless? *winks in 20th anniversary*

For real. I love Floro Dery's design motif of simple, yet very interesting and characterful shapes that revel in '80s contours and colors. Specifically Dery's G1 designs are tied for my favorite Transformers design aesthetic, equal to Aaron Archer's very industrial, yet still super robot mecha, through the lens of Munetaka Abe's glorious art.
